While it was once thought impossible after she was forced to retire due to a neck injury, Saraya, better known as Paige, is scheduled to compete at WrestleMania 42 this weekend. According to PWinsider.com, the pioneering British star has signed a WWE contract and will replace the injured Nikki Bella in Saturday’s Women’s Tag Team Championship Fatal Four-Way match. This surprise appearance marks an emotional and triumphant comeback for one of the most influential figures in modern women’s wrestling.
“PWInsider.com is told that Saraya Jade-Bevis, known as Paige during her original run for the company, has signed to return as a wrestler for World Wrestling Entertainment and is expected to return to the ring this weekend as part of Wrestlemania 42. The belief among those we have spoken with is that Saraya, as Paige, will be part of Saturday’s WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Fatal Four Way, substituting for Nikki Bella who has not been cleared to return from the ankle injury suffered several weeks back on Smackdown. We are told she was seen taking part in a run through for the match earlier this week.” – PWInsider.com
33-year-old Saraya first rose to prominence on the British independent scene before signing with WWE in 2011 and becoming the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion in 2013 at just 20 years old. She shocked the world the following year by defeating AJ Lee on her main roster debut to capture the Divas Championship, becoming the youngest champion in its history. Yet despite injury seriously derailing her career, she ultimately overcame it and later wrestled in AEW, memorably winning the AEW Women’s Championship at All In in her home country.
