Tony Khan has been teasing a big announcement that would be great for both fans and wrestlers the past few weeks. However, some questioned whether he could live up to this on social media. Yet, he undoubtedly did when disclosing that he’d purchased Ring of Honor at the start of Dynamite. Since then the big question everyone is wondering is how much Khan paid for the struggling promotion. And a report from Bodyslam has seemingly answered this reporting that Khan paid Sinclair Broadcast Group up to $40 million.

Not much was known about the specific details regarding Tony Khan’s purchase of ROH, however one source had stated to me that he heard it was in the $30-$40 million range.

ROH seemed doomed when they declared they were going on hiatus and releasing all talents from their contracts. However, the company has since announced they will be running their Supercard of Honor show over WrestleMania weekend in Garland, Texas. Now, with only a handful of names confirmed for the show, there is bound to be speculation of AEW talents getting involved.

This past Monday, former MMA fighter and WWE wrestler Cain Velasquez was arrested after shooting the stepfather of a man accused of committing a lewd act on a young child in his family. It’s believed that Velasquez followed and then rammed the car carrying the man accused of the horrendous crime, and opened fire on him, his stepfather, and his mother indiscriminately in an attempt to get his own justice.

Now Velasquez has had the first of what will likely be many days in court, with ESPN reporting he has been charged with first degree attempted murder, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle or aircraft, three counts of assault with a firearm, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony. If convicted, he faces at least 20 years in prison.

It’s understood that 43-year-old Harry Eugene Goularte, the man accused of committing the indecent act on the child, was required to stay home at the time of the shooting. However, he was permitted out due to going to collect an electronic monitoring bracelet. Considering the charge, why Goularte wasn’t still in captivity has been a recurring question across social media, and it is known the district attorney’s office did go on record saying he shouldn’t be. Now it seems that decision has sparked a sequence of events that could see Velasquez separated from his family for a very long time.

Legendary wrestling promoter Jerry Jarrett has shared the sad news on his personnel Facebook page that Scott Hall has been hospitalized. Apparently, the WWE Hall of Famer recently fell and has suffered broken his hip. Currently, no additional information is available, but recovery time for this type of injury can be between 10 and 24 weeks. Seemingly this would put Hall’s upcoming WrestleCon appearances in Dallas next month in doubt.

63-year-old Hall was forced to retire from the ring due to a combination of addiction issues and poor health in 2010 and had to have both a defibrillator and a pacemaker installed. He would also be diagnosed with epilepsy and, at the time, was taking eleven different medications. Then three years later he would, he would undergo hip replacement surgery.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. made his AEW debut in July 2020 as the executive consultant for Andrade El Idolo, taking over for Vickie Guerrero. Yet, not long afterward, he was written off television as part of angle on Rampage when Andrade laid him out for aiding him when not wanted. This was done because Guerrero needed to be in Australia to assist in the filming of NBC’s Young Rock, based on The Rock life. Additionally, there was talk of Ric Flair coming in to take over the role. Still, it was always assumed he would return to AEW in some capacity.

Now though, an eagle-eyed Twitter user has spotted that 51-year-old Guerrero has been removed from AEW’s roster page. This would catch Guerrero by surprise, questioning Tony Khan in a since-deleted tweet. However, he did share another tweet saying that it was news to him.

As of writing, Guerrero’s status with AEW remains unclear, although if the former WCW and WWE star is leaving the company, it is unlikely he was released, as AEW doesn’t typically do this. Instead, they allow talents contracts to expire, which is considered the fairest way of dealing with talent deemed surplus to requirements.

On Monday afternoon, former UFC fighter and WWE talent Cain Velasquez was arrested for attempted murder after shooting a man in San Jose. Details were few and far between other than Velasquez was being held without bail and the victim was recovering in hospital from non-life-threatening injuries. Now though, the full circumstances have been reported by the Mercury News, who have reported that the man shot was the stepfather of Harry Eugene Goularte, a man accused of committing an indecent act with a child that is part of the Velasquez family.

It’s alleged the offense took place at a daycare center run by Goularte’s mother, and following his arrest, Goularte was granted a supervised release last week. Seemingly this set off the series of events that resulted in Goularte’s stepfather being hospitalized after Velasquez opened fire on a car containing him, his stepfather, and another person.

If found guilty, Velasquez faces a significant jail sentence, as a conviction of first-degree attempted murder is punishable by life imprisonment. However, if it’s deemed that Velasquez’s actions were not deliberate and planned, he would instead face up to nine years for second-degree attempted murder.

After photos showing Hulk Hogan and a woman that clearly wasn’t his wife being shared online, the 68-year-old would take to Twitter and announce he and Jennifer McDaniel had divorced in 2021. Now, TMZ has dug into court records and found details regarding his divorce, specifically revealing who got what in the settlement.

It was disclosed that Hogan got to keep his Clearwater mansion, but McDaniel got their other property in Palm Isle. Additionally, she would receive an undisclosed payment, and Hogan had to purchase her a new car within 45 days. Finally, it was noted that their pair has a non-disparagement clause, meaning neither can publicly talk about the other without written consent.

The newly divorced Hogan last wrestled a decade ago when he competed in two six-man tag matches in the UK while touring with TNA. Due to that, over the years, fans had hoped to see him return to wrestle one last time to get a proper send-off. Unfortunately, though, years of slamming giants and performing leg drops have left his back, knees, and hips in a bad way, and there had been reports of him struggling to get around. Thankfully though, his longtime friend and business associate Jimmy Hart has recently told fans that Hogan is undergoing physiotherapy and can get around pretty well nowadays.

A full roster reveal has been shared online for WWE’s upcoming video game, which is released later this month, and there were several surprises. This was because talents such as Braun Strowman and Peyton Royce, who were released in 2021, were included, while current stars, including Doudroup and Zelina Vega weren’t.

It would actually turn out based on their social media posts, many of the former talents didn’t even know there were being included, so they were delighted. However, not everyone was happy as Paige would call out 2K for not including her, which prompted Madusa to do the same.

Precisely why Paige and Madusa were excluded isn’t currently known. However, the fact Paige hasn’t appeared on WWE in almost two years possibly played a part. Additionally, with Madusa appearing on AEW television in 2020, 2K could have decided to remove her. This, though, is pure speculation, and the duo could simply be made available for the game via downloadable content at a later date. Nevertheless, it is understandable why both would be disgruntled, as inclusion in the game typically ensures a significant royalty check.

On Monday, former UFC fighter and WWE talent Cain Velasquez was arrested following a shooting in California. At the time, not much was known, other than Velasquez had been arrested, and another individual was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Now, the San Jose Police’s media department has issued an update via Twitter confirming that Velasquez is being held for attempted murder.

This is obviously incredibly serious, and it’s understood Velasquez will be in court this Wednesday. If the case goes to trial and he is found guilty, Velasquez faces a lengthy jail sentence. Typically if convicted of first-degree attempted murder, meaning the attempt was intentional and planned, Velasquez would face life imprisonment, with the possibility of parole. However, if not intentional and planned, he would face up to nine years incarcerated under second-degree attempted murder.

Velasquez would make his pro wrestling debut for AAA and, after looking impressive, held talks with New Japan. Nevertheless, he would opt to sign with WWE instead, debuting shortly afterward on SmackDown to feud with Brock Lesnar due to being one of the few men to defeat in his UFC.

Unfortunately, their match wasn’t good, and after wrestling on a house show in Mexico, he was sent to the Performace Center for additional training. Yet once the company began cost-cutting, he was deemed surplus to requirements and released, seemingly ending his wrestling career. Although he has since returned to the ring for AAA as part of a six-man tag match.

Damian Trujillo of NBC Bay Area has reported that former UFC champion and WWE talent Cain Velasquez was arrested on Monday afternoon following a shooting. Police have not yet released much information, but it’s understood the man shot is currently in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As of writing, Velasquez is being held at the Santa Clara County Jail without bail.

Velasquez was a big star in UFC but announced his retirement from MMA in October 2019, following his WWE debut. However, due to being thrown in at the deep end and suffering an injury, his first match, which was against Brock Lesnar, was poorly received by fans. Following a single house show appearance in Mexico, he was sent to train at the Performace Center before being released. Since then, he has only wrestled one match, a six-man tag this past December at AAA’s TripleMania Regia.

An ongoing joke on social media was that whenever WWE released talents, those behind making WWE 2K22 would be angry that their work has gone to waste. Now though, it seems that was never an issue as for the most part, 2K has left in the vast majority of talents released last year. The notable exceptions are Bryan Danielson, Malakai Black, Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Ruby Soho, who will have been cut due to signing with AEW. Plus Bray Wyatt, who didn’t leave WWE on the best of terms.

The below video, which shows off the talents and their ratings, also shows that several wrestlers that fans expected to be in the game are not. These include Ronda Rousey, Madcap Moss, Doudrop, Zelina Vega, Rick Boogz, and LA Knight.

While it was always expected that some released talents like Jeff Hardy would still appear in the game given the timelines involved, some of the releases were ten months ago. However, this is a positive for those talents as they will likely receive a significant payoff, which has been between five and six-figure amounts in past years.

This past weekend it was reported that Vince McMahon would be returning to the ring to wrestle Pat McAfee at WrestleMania 38. While initially, it sounded unbelievable due to his age, considering the sources reporting it were trustworthy, it seemed the news was valid. However, this did leave fans wondering why McMahon was coming out of retirement to wrestle again. And now former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz has speculated why, suggesting that the match may be taking place due to there being a Netflix documentary filming about McMahon.

While not confirmed, it certainly would make sense that Netflix would want a unique hook, and 76-year-old McMahon training to wrestle for the first time in over a decade would undoubtedly be fascinating. Why McAfee was chosen as his opponent remains unknown, although being a former NFL player and having his own sports talk show probably means he is better known to a mainstream audience than the majority of the WWE roster.

Not much has been revealed about the Netflix series other than it will have one of the streaming service’s largest budgets ever for a docuseries and is being produced by Chris Smith, who directed Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. Also believed to be on board is Bill Simmons, who is behind ESPN’s 30 For 30, and the acclaimed AndrĂ© the Giant documentary for HBO. At present, no release date has been communicated other than 2022.

SmackDown wrestler Shotzi Blackheart wrestled her first match in almost a month this past Friday, losing to Sasha Banks in just over two minutes. While her absence was assumed to be because WWE didn’t have anything creatively for her, it turned out it was due to her being injured. Blackheart would reveal this herself while speaking to the Mondragon Chiropractic YouTube channel, explaining that her lower back was in a great deal of pain, rating it a ten and saying she couldn’t even get out of bed in the morning.

I actually got x-rays on it. It’s nothing crazy, but they said that my pelvic bone is tilted forward. They’ve been giving me rehab exercises and stuff. I’m way better than a month ago, for sure.Shotzi Blackheart
Ten. It was pretty bad. I had a match, and then I woke up the next morning, and it was really hard for me to get up. I slid off the bed onto the floor, and I couldn’t even put pressure onto my knees or crawl. I’ve been off for a little bit.Shotzi Blackheart

Seeing that Blackheart is now taking bumps again, it would seem things have improved considerably for her, which is great to see. However, given the disregard she has shown her own body and general recklessness in the ring, an injury like this was always likely to happen. Perhaps this will now be a wake-up call to her, as being just 30 and recently called SmackDown, she should have a long and successful career if she can stay fit.
