WWE released Ember Moon on November 4th, 2021, ending a six-year run with the company that saw her hold the NXT Women’s Championship and NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship with Shotzi Blackheart. The official reason was budgetary cuts, and given how many wrestlers had been released by the company over the previous year, it didn’t come as a huge surprise.
Now speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Moon would discuss the last months of her time in the company and share a lot of backstage information, including how at one point, they wanted her to become a coach. She’d also reveal she wasn’t happy with how NXT had changed and that the company held a meeting about the female wrestlers dressing more provocatively like Mandy Rose for NXT 2.0. Additionally, disclosing that some talents were unhappy doing so but told they had no choice
We’d have to sit through stupid meetings about how we would have to dress sexy. And I remember looking at someone else like, “I cater to children. I am not about to wear a fishnet booty butt cheek shorts because we had a two-hour meeting about how to dress like Mandy Rose.” That’s not fair. Not everyone is going to be Mandy. Mandy is absolutely phenomenal, and she’s an amazing person. But not everyone is Mandy Rose. I started seeing this downslope as soon as Hunter was gone,
Ember MoonI see where this is going between booty butt cheek shorts meeting and them telling girls to alter their gear to make it more revealing. And some people were very uncomfortable with that. And they were like, “Nope, this is what they want. You got to do it.” It didn’t matter how that person felt. And I was like, this isn’t what I signed up for anymore. This isn’t about the wrestling. This isn’t about the art that we create in the ring.
Ember MoonWhile NXT was previously all about work rate and putting on exciting matches, 2.0 is a vastly different product focusing on younger and attractive talent. The fact Mandy Rose is the current NXT Women’s Champion with her Toxic Attraction stablemates Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne being NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion demonstrates this. Given the fact Moon wasn’t comfortable with WWE’s racy approach, it certainly explains why she was considered expendable. However, considering how talented she is, hopefully, it won’t be long until she returns to mainstream wrestling again, with AEW or Impact Wrestling both being a worthy home for her in-ring skills.
WWE is currently touring Europe and was in Newcastle, England, on Thursday night. The show’s main event was Drew McIntrye vs. Bobby Lashley, and during the match, there was a terrifying moment when both men simultaneously hit the ropes, and the top rope broke, resulting in Lashley tumbling out of the ring. Following the fall, ringside officials and Sami Zayn, who was accompanying Lashley, would check on the collapsed star, with him being OK as he’d finish the match. A video of the incident can be viewed below.

Following the match, both McIntrye and Lashley would take to Twitter, with the Scotsman first making light of the situation by saying, “Thank you #WWENewcastle We tore the house…..and the ring down!” This was followed by Lashley addressing the incident and seemingly confirming he is unhurt by saying, “…and some of y’all think I’m not the toughest guy in @WWE 😂😂😂😂” Precisely how this was possible given the high quality of WWE rings. Still, it’s probable someone in the ring crew will have been in trouble following the event.
MVP recently turned on Bobby Lashley to align with Omos, seemingly attempting to take the Nigerian to the next level. Billed at 7’3 and aged just 27, he is obviously set to get every chance to be a main eventer in WWE. Unsurprisingly, this has resulted in fans on social media likening him to fellow oversized wrestler The Great Khali, who had a memorable run with the company between 2006 and 2014. His pinnacle being in 2007 when he won the World Heavyweight Championship via a battle royal.
However, while Khali was very successful for a time, a wrestler being compared to him isn’t typically a compliment as he was very limited in the ring. So now MVP, who wrestled and even teamed with Khali in 2007 and 2008, has fired back at those fans who have made that comparison. He’d do this by calling them idiots and insulting Khali in the process by naming him “the not so “Great” Khali” and saying he was “awful” in the ring.
If Omos’ reported height is accurate, he is the third tallest wrestler in WWE history, just behind Andre The Giant and Giant Gonzalez. And typically, there are very few wrestlers around this height that are good workers. However, given he only started training in 2019, there is still the possibility he will become at least adequate. The fact that WWE canceled a feud between him and AJ Styles after a houseshow and single televised match isn’t a good sign. Nevertheless, he’ll be given every opportunity to be a star because he looks like one and now has MVP by his side, which significantly advanced Lashley’s career.
On the December 12th, 2008 episode of SmackDown, a mysterious video aired with British wrestler Hade Vansen cutting a promo to commence a feud with The Undertaker. Yet, Vansen wouldn’t appear again, with few fans seemingly remembering his only appearance. However, during his Wrestling With Freddie podcast, Hollywood actor Freddie Prinze Jr, who was writing for WWE, would provide some info on what caused his sudden disappearance. Revealing that during a production meeting, when the storyline was being discussed, Triple H questioned why Vansen had the spot, saying, “he looks like he cuts my grass.” This resulted in laughter from Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn, and the angle was abruptly ended.
All of a sudden, out of nowhere, Hunter says, “Are we seriously going with this guy?” Remember, this is not a pay-per-view match. This is not a guy that would get any sort of offense on The Undertaker. It would be just a build-up for The Undertaker to have something to do so he could smash this guy and then get rolling over to Edge. He says, “Are we really going to go with this guy?” Vince goes, “What do you mean? What’s the problem?” He says, “He looks like he cuts my grass, man,” and Vince laughed.
Freddie Prinze Jr.Vince laughs, and then Hunter laughs, and then Kevin Dunn laughs. I mean he sells for it. You would have thought it was the best joke ever. So I’m like, oh man, this is dead, we’re dead, and Vince goes, “All right, dump it.”
Freddie Prinze Jr.Vansen, whose real name is Hadrian Howard, was released by WWE on January 9th, 2009, less than a month after the video aired. And despite being only 26 years old at the time, he’d retire from the wrestling business. Instead, he would move to Los Angeles to focus on acting and has since had minor roles in shows and movies, including Sons of Anarchy, Terminator: Dark Fate, and Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation. Currently, he is listed as filming content for the Star Citizen video game, which features fellow brits Craig Fairbrass and Gary Oldman, proving there is life after wrestling. Nevertheless, he must wonder what could have been had he gotten to work with The Undertaker in front of a worldwide audience.
After their WWE departure, Australian tag team Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay, now collectively known as The IInspiration, began working for Impact Wrestling in October 2021. Since then, they’ve been Impact Knockouts Tag Team Champions and featured on multiple pay-per-views. However, now the duo has announced on social media that they are both indefinitely stepping away from the ring. Their joint statement can be read below, and while they didn’t give a reason, they did thank Impact’s Scott D’Amore and said they are looking forward to exploring other opportunities.
This announcement has seemingly come out of the blue, as they wrestled just this past weekend for Impact, putting over Madison Rayne and Tenille Dashwood. Therefore, their future plans aren’t known, although they have been modeling via cassieleeworld.com and jessiemckayworld.com, with thousands of fans paying $9.99 a month to view their pictures. Therefore, they are likely earning far more doing this than they could make in the wrestling business. Given this, they may want to focus on building their individual brands until a high-paying wrestling job opportunity comes up.
Joey Janela’s three-year run with AEW is set to conclude this weekend, with the wrestler previously saying he wanted to return to the indies. However, the belief is that AEW opted not to renew his deal, and he had significant heat on him after injuring Eddie Kingston and delaying his feud with Chris Jericho. Regardless of the reason, with his time as a contracted wrestler completed, he has now taken to Twitter to joke about wasting his money, revealing he opted not to buy a new car but instead spend it on lobster.
It isn’t publicly known how much Janela was earning with AEW. However, at the time of the company’s launch, there were reports that independent wrestlers were being offered $100,000 a year. Therefore if this is the level of what Janela was receiving, he went through a lot of the crustaceans. Nevertheless, all jokes aside, hopefully, Janela did save his money as while a cult hero on the indies and specifically for GCW, his income is likely to decrease significantly. However, it’s doubtful that he’ll need to return to his pre-AEW job of delivering pizzas anytime soon, thanks to the exposure he has since received.
Just over a week ago, it was reported by FanByte that Alberto Del Rio was set to appear as Laredo Kid’s mystery partner in a three-way tag match at AAA’s TripleMania on April 30th. This was significant news because it would be his first appearance on a major show since the charges were dropped against him for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his now ex-girlfriend. Now though, FanByte has followed up on this and revealed he has been pulled from the match, with a wrestler from the US indie circuit set to replace him.
A week after this story was published, the same AAA source reached out to Fanbyte to say that Alberto El Patrón has been “pulled from the match” in which he was scheduled to perform at Triplemanía. El Patrón’s replacement is currently set to be a wrestler from the American independent scene.
FanbyteWhy Del Rio is out of the match currently isn’t known, and it should be noted that the report only says he is out of the match, not that he is off the show altogether. However, if he is off the show, it would be at the determent to the 44-year-old career, as Triplemania is AAA’s biggest show of the year and is regarded by many as their version of WrestleMania and Wrestle Kingdom. Furthermore, had he appeared, it could have perhaps opened doors for him to return to wrestling in the US. As at present, he predominantly wrestles on small-scale shows in Mexico.
Three months ago, Santino Marella revealed his daughter Bianca Carelli was following in his footsteps, having signed with WWE. Since then, she has been training at the Performance Center, preparing for her eventual NXT debut. While this is expected to be some time away, she has now updated her name across social media to show that she’ll be known as Arianna Grace. This seemingly signifies WWE won’t be portraying her as Santino’s daughter or even a second-generation wrestler.
The 26-year-old previously tried out for WWE in 2019 but at the time was told she needed more experience. Since then, she has been training at her father’s Battle Arts Academy gym. Additionally, she appeared at Billy Corgan’s NWA EmPowerrr event in August 2021, sharing a ring with names like Chelsea Green, Kiera Hogan, and Debbie Malenko. It remains to be seen how long it will be until she makes her NXT debut. Still, considering how the brand is focused on creating new and young stars, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her make her television debut before the end of the year.
Overnight Chelsea Green’s Twitter account had a message that her account had been suspended for her violating the platform’s rules. This left her followers confused as it wasn’t apparent what sheld done to cause this. However, upon restoring her account, the Impact Wrestling star revealed that updating her header photo to one of her wearing a bikini was what caused the suspension. Additionally, she’d criticize the platform for not suspending the trolls that regularly target her.
If you’ve spent any amount of time on Twitter, you will have undoubtedly seen more unsafe for work content than Green in a bikini, so the suspension had to have been human error. Nevertheless, she does raise a great point about the bird app’s seemingly indifference to targetted harassment which virtually every high-profile wrestler receives. Now though, with Elon Musk purchasing the app, perhaps it won’t be long until all users have to be verified, which could significantly reduce trolling.
WWE unexpectantly released bray Wyatt on July 31, 2021, which was just eight days before he was meant to be returning to television. The official reason for him being cut was budgetary cuts, but it has been strongly speculated that it was due to him being uncooperative when it came to agreeing to what he felt was bad creative. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting his return to the ring; however, he has instead been filming a yet unannounced movie.
Now, during an appearance on Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has given more insight into what is also preventing a return. Revealing that the former WWE Champion was making $4 million a year during the height of his popularity and is quoting a really high price to anyone who wants to employ him.
Wyatt has stated on social media recently that he can’t imagine never wrestling again. Yet, given his asking price, it seems only WWE or AEW could afford to offer him a contract at present. Nevertheless, having earned so much money during his WWE run, which saw him become the company’s top merchandise seller, he doesn’t need to wrestle and can focus on movie projects for the foreseeable future.
The hashtag #LeavingTwitter would begin to trend after it was confirmed that Elon Musk was purchasing the microblogging platform for an incredible $44 billion. And while he didn’t use the hashtag, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has since announced he is among those now considering quitting the bird app, saying he doesn’t have a good feeling regarding its future. It should be noted the hardcore legend has taken breaks from Twitter in the past but has always returned, bringing with him a level of positivity rarely found on the Twitterverse.
Twitter users are split when it comes to Musk’s takeover, with some seeing it as a much-needed change. In contrast, others feel it no longer being a publicly listed company will be the beginning of the end. The big issue seems to be Musk’s goal of making the app a place where everyone can debate topics without the worry of censorship. However, critics say it will become the home of hate speech and become damaging to the world. Of course, until Musk officially takes over and implements his changes, it’s impossible to envision the site in the future accurately. Nevertheless, some, including Foley, appear set not to be there to see it.
As the Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, WWE Hall of Famer Kane only makes sporadic appearances for the company nowadays. Obviously, coordinating his attendance can be a challenge with his day-to-day duties. However, with Raw taking place at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville tonight, which is less than 5 miles away, Fightful Select has reported that he will be at the show. And as of this weekend, he was scheduled to appear in front of the camera as part of a segment between Kevin Owens and Ezekiel.
Fightful learned that as of this afternoon, there was a plan for Kane to appear in some capacity on WWE Raw. The early pitch we’d heard was for him to be involved in a segment with Ezekiel and Kevin Owens that was figured into the script this weekend.
Fightful SelectKane hasn’t officially retired from the ring, although his last full-time run concluded in the much-ridiculed match at Cowen Jewel, which saw him team with The Undertaker against Shawn Michaels and Triple H in 2018. Since then, his only in-ring performance was as a surprise entrant in the 2021 Royal Rumble match, although he briefly won and then lost the 24/7 Championship to R-Truth in what can only be described as typical WWE comedy.
