Ryback regularly makes headlines for his Twitter antics, where he seemingly says nasty and insensitive comments for attention. For example, he would call Triple H a liar on the same day he announced his retirement from the ring. Then more recently, he posted a grossly offensive tweet about Vince McMahon’s deceased mother, Vicki Askew. Now, during a recent episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T would address Ryback’s behavior, saying he doesn’t have a lot of respect for him, and if they ever cross paths, he wouldn’t be extending his hand.
Ryback didn’t make it in the WWE, right? That’s a fact. He didn’t make it in the WWE. Why would he even want to have any memory of WWE and want to carry a name like Ryback if you feel so negative about what this company has done to you? That right there says a whole lot as far as I’m concerned.
Me personally, I don’t have a whole lot of respect for someone like that, you know, me personally. If I’m gonna say something like that about someone, I have to really despise them, and it’s not going to be because of a work issue or anything like that or because I didn’t get a push or anything like that. But a person that says something like that, I just do not have a whole lot of respect for him.
The thing is, if I saw him in his face, I’ll tell him, “I don’t have a lot of respect for you at all, if any.” Seriously, that’s just the type of person I am. I do know if I ever was to run across Ryback ever again in any form, he would not be receiving a handshake from me and me saying, “Hey, what’s up, Ryback?” Ryback is on the list as far as I’m concerned.
Booker TRyback has previously stated he has no intention of signing another contract with a major promotion again. However, considering how unpopular he has become since departing WWE, it seems doubtful anyone would be interested in bringing him in. Seemingly though, Ryback subscribes to the theory that all publicity is good publicity, even if he is effectively ending his own career in the process.
On March 25th, 2022, Tammy Lynn Sytch, known best to pro wrestling fans as Sunny, was involved in a three-vehicle car crash. Sadly 75-year-old Julian Lafrancis Lasseter died in this, and his family has since filed a lawsuit against the WWE Hall of Famer and her boyfriend, James Pente, claiming she was intoxicated. Yet the former wrestling icon would claim on social media that she suffered a seizure while driving, and Lasseter died of an unrelated heart attack.
However, PWInsider has now reported that Sytch was arrested on nine charges this Friday night in Ormond Beach, Florida, following toxicology results coming in. These charges include DUI manslaughter and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Her bond has been set at $200,000 for the manslaughter charge and an additional $27,500 for the other eight charges. If Sytch does end up being found guilty of all charges, the 49-year-old faces up to 30 years behind bars.
In recent years, Sytch’s life has been beset with legal issues, with her incarcerated for most of 2019. Then after her release, she would subsequently be arrested again on July 13th, 2020, while still on parole and charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended license, eluding a police officer, and violating her restraining order. This resulted in her being detained again until June 9th, 2021. Then just four months ago, she was arrested again after attempting to attack her boyfriend with a pair of scissors while a police officer was present. The officer would say at the time that he believed she was intoxicated.
AEW recently updated the roster page on their website, and while the removal of Joey Janela, Marko Stunt, and Jack Evans was expected, fans were surprised to see Stu Grayson also gone. Subsequently, it was reported that he and AEW could not agree on a new deal, and now Grayson has commented publicly for the first time since the news broke. The now former Dark Order member would confirm his contract had expired on April 30th, thank those in the company, and say he hopes the world will soon see what the faction can do.
33-year-old Grayson and his long-term partner Evil Uno were two of AEW’s initial signings and debuted for the promotion at their Double or Nothing event in 2019. Over the course of the next three years, he’d wrestle almost 80 times for the promotion, but many of his matches were in tag and multi-man matches on AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation. However, given the exposure he now has from appearing in AEW should ensure he gets plenty of bookings on the independent scene in his home country of Canada.
Brock Lesnar lost the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38 last month, and while no official plans for him have been announced, it seemed likely he’d appear at WrestleMania Backlash due to him featuring on the event’s poster. However, Lesnar was subsequently removed from the show’s listing on WWE.com, and the event poster was changed to just feature Edge. Now it has been revealed in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE did this because they didn’t want to give away the result of Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania ahead of time. Seemingly thinking if it was known Lesnar wasn’t going to be at WWE’s next event, everyone would figure out the outcome of the unified championship match.
When Lesnar will return to WWE remains unknown, but it is thought he will wrestle at Money In The Bank in July, which takes place at the massive Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders. And considering the venue can hold 70,000 fans, WWE may want to hold Lesnar back for that show rather than diluting his significance by wrestling beforehand. Additionally, with this show being before SummerSlam, it will help set him up for a fresh featured match on the show, with it understood WWE considers his rivalry with Reigns over.
During the March 11th episode of SmackDown, Ridge Holland would give Big E an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on the floor, and the former WWE Champion landed on his head. It was immediately apparent that he was hurt, and the tag match also featuring Kofi Kingston and Sheamus would conclude in the ring without him. Subsequently, Big E would tweet out the unfortunate news he had suffered a broken neck. It had been thought that he was doing OK while recuperating, however, he has now shared the worrying update that his C1 isn’t healing as required, and he may need fusion surgery.
It has been hoped that Big E wouldn’t require surgery and could potentially wrestle again this year. Now though, that is looking doubtful. Nevertheless, history has shown that while this serious surgery is considered the last resort, multiple wrestlers have returned to the ring afterward, including Steve Austin, Edge, Tommaso Ciampa, Nikki Bella, and Trent Beretta. Hopefully, though, it isn’t required for Big E, and over the coming weeks, his neck does begin to fully heal.
NXT talent Candice LeRae went on maternity leave in August 2021 and gave birth to her and Johnny Gargano’s son Quill in February 2022. Since then, her WWE future has been uncertain, but with her husband departing the company and NXT 2.0 focusing on youth, it seemed doubtful she’d return. Now, according to Fightful Select, her contract has expired, and she’s been moved to the alumni section of WWE’s website, demonstrating she is no longer with the company.
Considering how WWE has been cutting costs frequently in the form of roster cuts, many believed she’d have been released sooner. Still, WWE likely didn’t want to risk any legal issues by firing someone on maternity leave, instead opting to simply let her contract expire. What the future holds for her now remains to be seen. However, she has never publicly expressed any desire to retire following becoming a mother, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see her and Gargano show up somewhere as a duo before the end of the year.
Despite being just 36 years old, LeRae is a 20-year veteran and, throughout her career, has made appearances for Ring of Honor, TNA, CZW, and Lucha Underground before wrestling for WWE in 2017 and signing a contract in 2018. During this time, she became a regular on WWE’s NXT brand, and her career highlight saw her win the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship with Indi Hartwell. Her final match for the company would occur on NXT’s The Great American Bash-themed episode in July 2021, where she and Hartwell would drop the titles to Io Shirai and Zoey Stark.
Within hours of Brian Kendrick’s WWE release being reported, it was advertised by AEW that they’d booked him to wrestle Jon Moxley on Dynamite. However, that appearance was canceled by Tony Khan at the last minute after Twitter users shared conspiracy theory videos from 2011 and 2013 featuring the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion. In the clips, Kendrick would discuss bizarre and upsetting views regarding the Holocaust, Sandy Hook, and even claim reptilians were seeking eyeballs after an earthquake in Haiti.
Following the uproar on social media, Kendrick took to Twitter himself and apologized for what he had previously said and stressed that they were not his current beliefs. Now in an interview with Duke Loves Rasslin, he has spoken in more detail for the first time, saying back then, he was trying to create buzz and get bookings and that he was embarrassed and sorry for making light of tragedies.
Kendrick hasn’t wrestled since his WWE release, and since the controversy ensued, it isn’t known whether he has been offered any bookings. Still, considering actual criminals have resumed their careers, it seems unlikely he won’t wrestle again. However, with cancel culture now being such a big part of life, it is likely the promotions willing to book him in the immediate future will be few and far between regardless of his apology.
Dark Side of the Ring is one of Vice TV’s most successful shows, and despite rumors of the opposite, future seasons are planned. Yet, while the show is popular among fans, it has had a knock-on effect in the business as the episode detailing the now infamous Plane Ride From Hell episode resulted in Ric Fair losing his anticipated job in AEW due to his alleged past behavior. Additionally, Tommy Dreamer would find himself suspended by Impact Wrestling for making comments seemingly supporting Flair’s past actions.
Since then, Jim Ross, who was heavily featured in the episode due to being WWE’s Head of Talent Relations at the time, has revealed he likely won’t appear in future episodes. And now, following Ross’ lead, AEW commentator Tony Schiavone has stated on his podcast that he was asked to participate in future shows but declined after seeing the trouble others have experienced after appearing.
It’s disappointing that Schiavone won’t be appearing, considering his long history in the wrestling business would make him a perfect person to contribute. However, given how he has just reestablished his career, having been on the sidelines for many years, it is understandable he doesn’t want to jeopardize his AEW position. Nevertheless, considering the show’s notoriety, it’s doubtful the producers will struggle to attract knowledgeable participants with Mick Foley, Jim Cornette, RVD, Lance Storm, WWE’s lawyer Jerry McDevitt, and our own Chris Jericho all having featured.
Former WWE wrestler Ember Moon recently was interviewed by Chris Van Vliet about her time with the company. During this, she would reveal she wasn’t happy with how NXT changed and that the company held a meeting with wrestlers about the female wrestlers dressing more provocatively like Mandy Rose for NXT 2.0. Additionally, making it known that some talents were uncomfortable with this but were told they had no choice.
Now on his Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T, who was involved in training Moon before she joined WWE, gave his thoughts on his former student publicly sharing this information. With the WWE Hall of Famer noting it serves Moon no benefit sharing something WWE didn’t want people outside the meeting knowing and that she has potentially burnt a bridge with the company.
It isn’t surpassing that Booker T sided with WWE, given he has a long-term contract with them. However, the fact he would publicly criticize his former student on his own platform when he could have purposely avoided the topic isn’t the best look. Nevertheless, he is likely correct, noting that Moon has possibly soured her relationship with WWE following the interview, although whether she has any aspirations of returning isn’t known.
On Wednesday night’s Dynamite, MJF introduced Impact Wrestling’s W. Morrissey as a mystery opponent for Wardlow, which delighted fans in attendance. However, in reference to his tag team past with Enzo Amore in WWE, some fans would begin chanting “We Want Enzo!” Yet showing that wouldn’t be a popular signing for many of the AEW faithful, others, though, chanted back, “No, We Don’t!” A video of the match can be viewed below and features Morrisey acknowledging the chants by doing Enzo’s dance and then telling fans to shut up.
Wardlow would be victories as expected, and with Morrissey contracted to Impact Wrestling, it isn’t known if he will be returning to AEW in the future. Nevertheless, even if he isn’t going to be returning any time soon, he is likely happy with the exposure, having not appeared for such a high-profile promotion since his WWE exit in 2018.
Cass would suffer from mental health issues and an alcohol addiction following his WWE release in June 2018 but returned to wrestling after almost 18 months away in February 2021 on an independent show. He’d be the surprise tag partner for Hernandez facing Luke and Perry Hawx, but beforehand he’d make the save for his former WWE tag partner Enzo Amore. He’d go on to compete in several singles matches on the indies, proving he was in good health, both mentally and physically, before signing with Impact Wrestling in April 2021 and being prominently pushed.
Regarding Enzo, it seems doubtful AEW would be interested in hiring him, as they focus on in-ring wrestling product, and he was much better suited to sports entertainment. Besides, he has a poor reputation after attempting to disrupt WWE’s 2018’s Survivor Series event by being in the crowd and standing on his seat. As a result, he’d eventually be removed from the Staples Center by security and was banned from future events. This incident was due to him opposing his firing earlier that year after serious allegations were made against him. The police would ultimately drop the case due to a lack of evidence. Still, due to Enzo not telling WWE about the allegations, he remained persona non grata, even though he claims he was unaware himself at the time.
Tessa Blanchard hasn’t regularly competed since departing Impact Wrestling in 2020. She left on bad terms after refusing to cooperate with them while their world champion and then tried to get them to pay her $150,000 to return the physical belt when she was released. While that would be enough for many promotions not to want to work with her, she has also been accused of using a racial slur and spitting in the face of a fellow wrestler.
Now though, she has been given an opportunity to rebuild her career in the soon to be relaunched Women of Wrestling. However, it has now been reported by Fightful Select that her future in the company is in doubt after a blow-up with a wrestler she was training. Apparently, she ripped apart Samantha Sage, who wrestlers as Americana, during a promo so harshly other trainees complained to management. Subsequently, the classes were canceled, and there is speculation she may no longer be with the company.
While some fans are excited to watch WOW when it re-debuts later this year as a syndicated weekend television show, many are already declaring they won’t watch due to Blanchard’s involvement. WOW already has an uphill struggle establishing itself in such a competitive wrestling market, so David McLane, the founder of GLOW, who owns the brand, choosing to build around Blanchard was always going to be a risky choice. Only time though, will tell if it was wise or will ultimately lead to the permanent end of the promotion, which has been on and off since 2000.
Matt Riddle married two-time all-American Gymnast Lisa Rennie in 2011 while he was part of the UFC, and the couple had three children together. Yet, in the summer of 2020, independent wrestler Candy Cartwright would make allegations against the WWE star dating back to 2018. She would go on to file a lawsuit that subsequently led to Riddle admitting to having an affair with her. However, he would also say everything that occurred in their relationship was completely consensual. Cartwright would go on to drop the lawsuit in July 2021, and it remains unknown if she received a settlement from Riddle or WWE.
Obviously, this would have caused a significant strain on the couple’s marriage, and last year Lisa called out Matt in a now-deleted tweet for moving to Orlando and claimed he had abandoned his children. Now she has again taken to social media and confirmed that they are officially divorced.

While Lisa typically stayed out of the spotlight during Riddle’s career, she did cause some backstage issues for Riddle when he was in WWE. She did this by posting a photograph of Becky Lynch on Instagram and said WWE women wrestlers were “straight skinny jiggly fat.” She’d further criticize their appearance by comparing their bodies to hers, saying she is “a mom of 3 vs two females getting paid a TON of money for how they look.” This led Lynch’s husband, Seth Rollins, to not want to work with Riddle when they were both on SmackDown together. Riddle subsequently apologized to Rollins on his then wife’s behalf, and it’s understood there are no issues between the pair, with them having shared a ring multiple times since.
