Following claims that TNA’s parent company, Anthem, granted WWE a first-right-of-refusal clause in any potential sale, Jeff Jarrett has questioned on his podcast what Anthem gained by handing WWE such powerful leverage. Jarrett bluntly stated that if the clause exists, “the writing is on the wall” for an eventual takeover. The comments come just days after a report stated that Anthem would accept $30 million for the company but is hoping, thanks to its television deal with AMC, to secure as much as $50 million.
“If that’s true, boy, oh boy. ‘Hey man, let’s give them this talent, let’s give them this talent. Let’s get them on that WWE train and get the audience of TNA, WWE and NXT, and let’s marry them up. Hey, let’s even do a TNA/NXT kind of storyline battle. Okay. Yep. We’re rolling along. Oh boy. If that’s really the truth, first right of refusal? If it’s there, then the writing is on the wall, and it’s in super glue.” – Jeff Jarrett
A cornerstone of TNA since its launch in June 2002, Jarrett co-founded the promotion with his father, Jerry. During his time with the promotion, he served as an in-ring star, executive, and minority owner, memorably introducing the innovative six-sided ring, and helping build TNA into a legitimate WWE alternative by elevating stars like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. And while he faced criticism at times for his multiple title reigns, Jarrett’s vision laid much of the groundwork for the promotion’s legacy. However, he is currently persona non grata with Anthem due to past legal issues.
