The Berwyn Eagles Club, a beloved venue that hosted Chicago independent wrestling for more than two decades, has permanently banned all future wrestling events. The decision follows a fan incident during a Ruthless Pro Wrestling show on March 28, where indie wrestler Krule was reportedly stabbed. However, GCW owner Brett Lauderdale has now publicly stated on X.com that the widely reported stabbing was fabricated to justify the aggressive beating of the fan. The exaggeration prompted involvement from the police and lawyers, ultimately leading to the cancellation of pro wrestling at the venue, including GCW’s June 20 show.
Initial reports claimed a fan stabbed Krule following an altercation at his merch table earlier in the evening, with a video subsequently being shared online showing several wrestlers rushing in to beat him brutally. However, some who witnessed the incident would later claim not to have seen a knife, changing things dramatically. Still, thanks to the controversy, the venue’s owners clearly felt that hosting wrestling shows is now too much of a hassle, forcing Chicago-based promoters to scramble to find a new home.
