Trademarks are serious business in pro wrestling, especially with many wrestlers’ ring names being owned by the promotions they work for. And now it’s been spotted by eagle-eyed reporters that WWE has filed to trademark the names of two former stars, Zack Ryder and Ezekiel Jackson.
Precisely why the company has done this remains to be seen. Still, given they recently made it known to Matt Cardona that his attempt to trademark the name Zack Ryder would be met with opposition, they could simply be locking the names down themselves. Still, it’s undoubtedly an interesting development, especially regarding Jackson, who departed the company in 2013 and hasn’t wrestled since 2015.
