Last Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite saw Bryan Danielson team up with Claudio Castagnoli to wrestle Orange Cassidy and Kazuchika Okada. During this contest, Danielson would take both an Orange Punch and Rainmaker Clotheslines, resulting in him receiving medical attention. Subsequently, it was announced on Saturday night’s Collision that the former WWE star had suffered a broken orbital bone and would require surgery. However, Sports Illustrated has now reported that the injury actually occurred in Danielson’s prior match against Andrade, and AEW has put it down to Cassidy/Okada for storyline purposes.
“Danielson was hurt last week on Collision during a superb match against Andrade, doing damage to his orbital bone, Sports Illustrated has learned. The injury will require surgery. Danielson did wrestle five nights later on Dynamite in a tag match with Claudio Castagnoli against Kazuchika Okada and Orange Cassidy, but Castagnoli carried the bulk of the match. Per the storyline, illustrated by Castagnoli’s promo this past Saturday on Collision, is that the injury was caused by Okada and Cassidy”
Sports Illustrated2023 has been a challenging year for the 42-year-old Danielson in terms of injuries. As in addition to breaking his arm at Forbidden Door in a match against Okada, he also suffered a torn labrum when he wrestled MJF back in March. Hopefully, though, when he can return next year, he gets a clear run of being injury-free, especially with it known he intends to go part-time around the time his contract expires in September 2024.
