Keith Lee has been dealing with an injury since 2022, and at one point, things got so bad that his highly anticipated match with Swerve Strickland at Worlds End had to be pulled at the last minute. Since then, it’s understood he has undergone surgery, although further updates have been limited. And now Fightful Select has confirmed that while Lee remains employed by AEW, he still isn’t medically cleared to return to the ring.
“In following up, we were told that Keith Lee has still yet to be cleared for a return to action due to an undisclosed medical issue … Keith Lee remains on the AEW roster and is still under contract with the company. We wish him well in his recovery.”
Fightful Select39-year-old Lee was considered a can’t-miss talent in WWE, and Vince McMahon apparently told Randy Orton to make him look like a star when they first wrestled. Yet, McMahon would quickly sour on Lee and sent him to receive additional training, seemingly wanting to change what made him stand out. However, not long afterward, he was sidelined due to a heart condition, and his career faltered, leading to his WWE release.
