R-Truth has one of the most badass real names in all of pro wrestling, being called Ron Killings. However, while he has previously worked under the name Ron “The Truth” Killings elsewhere, WWE has previously avoided using this name, likely due to a combination of wanting to own the intellectual property and the connotations of his violent-sounding surname.

Yet after WWE was forced to rehire him last week following a huge amount of fan backlash, it has been now reported by Dave Meltzer that the former 54-time 24/7 Champion negotiated in his new contract that he could use his real name going forward, allowing him to establish it on television for eventual life after WWE.

“Ron Killings did ask for the name change to his real name as part of his new deal as many had suspected. The advantage is that when the new deal ends he will have had TV time as Ron Killings and can then go straight to using that name on indies and for personal appearances.”Dave Meltzer

53-year-old Killings broke into the business in the late 90s, initially as a manager, seeking to turn his life around after being jailed a few years earlier and wanting to move on from that life. And while it was a long shot, he sent a video to WWE just two years into his career, which, thanks to his look and charisma, led to him being hired to perform as K-Kwik.

Still, that first run with the company only lasted a couple of years, and he’d spend the next several years in TNA and working on the indies before getting another opportunity with WWE in 2008. From there, he would become a regular character on WWE television and notably headlined Survivor Series 2011 alongside The Miz against John Cena and The Rock in a match that was considered massive at the time.
