Just over two years ago, MLW filed an antitrust lawsuit against WWE because they allegedly worked behind the scenes to stop the airing of their flagship show on FOX’s Tubi streaming service. It was additionally claimed that a WWE executive, speculated to have been Stephanie McMahon, tried to warn Vice away from partnering with the promotion.
However, while it was known that WWE intended to fight every step of the way to avoid a payout, it was confirmed three months ago that the two sides had reached a settlement. And now, thanks to WWE’s parent company, TKO, issuing their latest earnings report on Tuesday, it has been revealed that MLW received $20 million.
“Includes costs related to certain litigation matters including antitrust matters for UFC and WWE, matters where Mr. McMahon has agreed to make future payments to certain counterparties personally and, for the year ended December 31, 2023, the settlement of a WWE antitrust matter for $20.0 million.”
TKOMLW was initially launched in 2002 by former WWE writer Court Bauer and featured talents such as Jerry Lynn, Shane Douglas, Sabu, and Terry Funk, giving it a very ECW feel. Still, it would only run for two years before closing and was considered a dead brand until making a comeback as a podcast network in 2011. Then, in 2017, it returned to its wrestling promotion roots by running shows again, and this time, it had the lofty ambition of being a genuine alternative to mainstream wrestling.
