Recently Released AEW Talent Was At TNA’s Weekend Television Tapings

In the past, AEW would typically only release talents early from their contracts if there was a disciplinary issue, such as with Jimmy Havoc and CM Punk. However, last month, Tony Khan’s promotion let several talents go due to budgetary reasons, and among them was José García, who worked under the name José the Assistant.

And now, Fightful Select has reported that he was at TNA’s weekend television tapings in Kentucky. Obviously, this doesn’t mean he is guaranteed to be joining the company, although it was noted that he met with Tommy Dreamer, who is part of TNA’s creative team.

“We’re told that Jose The Assistant met as at the TNA tapings in Newport, Kentucky, over the weekend. While he was there, he met with Tommy Dreamer for unspecified reasons.”

38-year-old García broke into the business back in 2007 and would compete on the California indie scene and in Mexico under the names Orion and Principe Orion. This would lead to him making a couple of appearances for WWE in 2011 and 2012, where he wrestled Brodus Clay and Ryback, although nothing more would come from this. Still, having taken a hiatus from the ring in 2018, he would join AEW in 2021 as Andrade El Ídolo’s manager. Yet, with the luchador returning to WWE earlier this year, it seems AEW couldn’t find another role for García.
