Reason Shared For Road Dogg’s Shock WWE Departure

Road Dogg, real name Brian James, the WWE Hall of Famer renowned for his iconic role in D-Generation X during the groundbreaking Attitude Era, shocked the wrestling world on Thursday by departing the company’s creative team. Initially, it was thought he might have been fired, but that was soon debunked, and it was confirmed that he had resigned. And now, according to a report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one reason James decided to step away was dissatisfaction with the feedback he received during his recent annual performance review.

56-year-old James transitioned from in-ring competition to a backstage role with WWE in 2014, initially serving as a producer, coach, and writer. Joining the main writing team in 2016, he advanced to a head writer position on SmackDown ahead of WrestleMania 35 in 2019, before stepping down from that position while remaining involved in other capacities. Released in January 2022 amid broader company changes, he was rehired later that year under the new regime led by Triple H, taking on executive responsibilities, including Senior Vice President of Live Events. He eventually returned to creative as co-lead writer for SmackDown.
