Earlier today it was announced that at the November 9th PPV “Full Gear,” the newly crowned All Elite Wrestling Champion Chris Jericho would be defending his title against Cody Rhodes. That, of course, is dependant on Jericho being the champion at the time as he has a title defense on episode 3 of AEW’s yet unnamed TV show on TNT. AEW President and CEO Tony Khan explained the reason for Cody getting the title match on PPV.
“Cody’s outstanding record in singles competition has secured him the number one contender ranking, and he will be challenging AEW world champion Chris Jericho in the first-ever pay-per-view defense of the championship on November 9 in Baltimore at Full Gear.”
“Cody earned this opportunity over the summer as he remained unbeaten in singles bouts, scoring pins on a pair of proven veterans, defeating his older brother, the legendary wrestler Dustin Rhodes at Double or Nothing, and beating bitter rival and former partner Shawn Spears at All Out—and battling to a draw with the exciting upstart Darby Allin at Fyter Fest.”
“This is an AEW world championship match that so many All Elite Wrestling fans are excited to witness, and I’m glad we’ll be able to present it at Full Gear.”
Full Gear is already shaping up to be a big PPV with Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega previously confirmed.

Ric Flair is no stranger to lawsuits having been sued many times over the years. Those suing him include WCW, Highspots, Ring of Honor, and his ex-agent. Well, now it could be his turn to take legal action, this time against WWE.

His issue is with WWE and Becky Lynch’s use of “The Man.” Lynch began calling herself “The Man” during her feud with his daughter, Charlotte Flair last year. It got over with the fans and became a big merchandise seller.

It seems though to be the man you gotta pay the man, as far as Ric Flair is concerned, and on August 26th he filed for a trademark on “The Man.”

TMZ caught up with Flair and asked him about this. He told them he initially had no issue with Lynch using “The Man” as he assumed he’d be compensated by WWE but was not the case. He said his argument is not with Becky Lynch, but with WWE. He says his daughter Charlotte is mad at him over making this an issue.

His reason for considering the lawsuit is to take care of his wife Wendy, and their families when he is gone. He said:

“When I almost died two years ago, one person stayed by me [Wendy]. The whole time — 31 days in the ICU, 12 days while I was dying on a respirator — and I’m gonna take care of her, and her family, and my family that has taken care of me no matter what.”

Ric Flair stated if he gets the trademark, he will allow Becky Lynch to continue using the name as long as WWE compensates him for it. At present, though they are not cooperative and they blew off his lawyer in early 2019. He has even contacted his good friend Triple H about it but to no avail. It seems WWE does not think he has a case.

While in IMPACT Wrestling “Smokeshow” Scarlett Bordeaux was a featured performer, but that ended when she requested her release in June. Apparently, she was having to work a side job because Impact wasn’t paying her enough to live on, and she wanted to pursue her other options.

Yesterday though she was at WWE’s Performance Center receiving a tryout. Previously to that, she has been wrestling for AAA.

It wasn’t her first WWE experience; she has previously worked as one of Adam Rose’s “Rosebuds” and appeared on RAW as an enhancement talent losing in a squash against Nia Jax. You can watch this match below.

Hopefully, the trial went well, and the very talented woman will soon be entertaining us again. She was a highlight of Impact Wrestling every week, and soon she could be on WWE television.

Crime Stoppers of El Paso have included Trenesha Sims, known better to wrestling fans at Rhaka Khan on their list of El Paso’s most wanted fugitives. She has been charged with interference with child custody, and Crime Stoppers is requesting anyone with information call 915-566-8477. If you do, you could be eligible for a cash reward.

Her wrestling career started promisingly as a 2005 WWE Diva Search contestant, the year Ashley Massaro won. She received a developmental contract but was released in 2006.

She didn’t give up on her wrestling dream and would go on to work for TNA in 2008/2009. Her career became derailed after being suspended for a backstage incident with Roxxi Laveaux after claims she worked too stiff. Also during this time, she dated Kurt Angle, but things would end badly when she filed for a protection from abuse order against him. She would later withdraw this.

She would wrestle for Lucha Libra USA between 2010 and 2011 before seemingly disappearing from wrestling.

Best known as the first woman to qualify for the finals of American Ninja Warrior, Kacy Catanzaro has quit WWE due to a back injury.

She signed with WWE in August 2017 and made her in-ring debut at an NXT live event in April 2018. Her main roster debut came at the 2019 Royal Rumble. She would then make her full NXT debut in March.

We are told she has been dealing with disc problems in her back and has decided to quit professional wrestling.

It did seem she had a big future ahead of her had she not suffered her back injury. WWE had tried to sign her multiple times based on her American Ninja Warrior success. A big part of the reason was she was credited for taking the mostly male viewership of Amerian Ninja Warrior to 55% female. Had she been able to replicate that with WWE, she would have been a massive star.

Big things had been expected since Kylie Rae debuted for Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling promotion in 2016 and winning a title on her debut. Less than two years later, she already had her first WWE trial.

Kylie would go on to sign for AEW in 2019 and was treated as a big-deal signing from the start. It, therefore, came as somewhat of a surprise when AEW owner Tony Khan confirmed that she had requested and been granted her release.

Her AEW debut was at Double or Nothing in a losing effort against Nyla Rose, Awesome Kong, and Britt Baker. She was then booked on the Fyter Fest event against Leva Bates but was replaced before the show.

Very little is known at the moment about the reason for her requesting her release. There has been some speculation online about her status dating back to July when she stopped posting on Instagram and then deleted her Twitter account in August.

Some sources have claimed she is dealing with a severe medical issue and is possibly done with wrestling, although hopefully, that isn’t the case.

DISCLAIMER: The PS4 game box in our image was produced by @FranckB22, WIJ's graphic guru. It isn't the real thing.

I’m sure everyone reading this knows Kenny Omega loves video games, so it’s no surprise one of his top priorities as an executive vice president of AEW is getting a video game released.

When asked by a fan at this weeks Starrcast event about it, he replied:

“Well, you know. Well. You know I’ve been globetrotting a little bit, and I’ve been trying to assemble and piece together some people who might be in the know the vision of what this needs to be. Trust me, having a video game for AEW is top of my priority list, and I can’t share anything right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there might be something to announce by the end of the year, so be ready for that, guys.”

Another fan asked Omega if he would play Tekken with a fan. In his answer, he revealed he might soon be a character in another non-wrestling fighting game.

“I’m not touching the game until they actually put me in it,”

“Now I’ve had this discussion with many people, had it with Capcom, Konami. I’m not talking about a wrestling game, but you might actually see Kenny Omega in a fighting game real soon. Things are coming together. That game whatever it may be, not to spoil anything.”

When you consider TNA had a game that sold 1.5 million copies, an AEW game seems a no-brainer, and Kenny Omega looks to be the right guy to make it happen.

Matt Taven became Ring of Honor Champion at the ROH/NJPW G1 Supercard in April at Madison Square Garden. He defeated both Jay Lethal and Marty Scurll in a ladder match, and many fans weren’t happy. The widespread consensus was that Marty Scurll should have won and become the champion.

At the time the view was Scurll was almost certainly going to leave once his contract expired to join AEW. Due to that, Ring of Honor chose to go with Taven as the safer option, considering him a sure thing to stay with the company.

Well, it seems that might not work out as ROH had hoped as Taven’s contract is expiring at the end of September and the two sides have still not agreed on a new deal.

With the Wednesday Night Wars about to start this puts Taven in an enviable position with the potential of both WWE and AEW interested in his services. Worst case scenario for Taven seems that ROH will have to up their offer financially to keep their champion.

It’s commendable that a kayfabe pro wrestling magazine like Pro Wrestling Illustrated still exists in 2019. A big part of why it does is because of their annual PWI 500 list, now in its 29th year.

Today PWI tweeted out that their much anticipated 2019 edition was available, and Seth Rollins was #1 for the second time.

It’s been a fantastic month for Rollins, he has beaten Brock Lesnar clean to win the Universal Championship, become a RAW Tag Team Champion, become UpUpDwnDwn Champ, got engaged and now is #1 in the PWI 500. Rollins told PWI:

“As difficult as it can be, this is all I ever wanted — to be in this position, to be having this conversation with you — talking about being the absolute best wrestler on the entire planet. I don’t think there is a single part of me that would trade any second of it.”

WIJ reader Robert Miqueli sent us the the top ten which was 1. Seth Rollins, 2. Daniel Bryan, 3. AJ Styles, 4. Kofi Kingston, 5. Kazuchika Okada, 6. Johnny Gargano, 7. Roman Reigns, 8. Kenny Omega, 9. Hiroshi Tanahashi, and 10. Will Ospreay. To get the full list you’ll need to visit PWI-Online.com and order a print or digital copy.

It’s important to stress the list is kayfabe and runs from July 31, 2018, to June 30, 2019. They base the list off a wrestler’s win-loss record, championships won, quality of competition, major feuds, prominence within a wrestler’s individual promotion(s) and overall wrestling ability.

Activity is also a factor and the reason why Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and our own Chris Jericho weren’t eligible. To qualify a wrestler must wrestle 20 matches during the evaluation period or wrestle in 7 different months, meaning all 3 just missed out.

Of course with Chris Jericho about to wrestle for the AEW Champiompsionship and regularly feature on AEW’s new show on TNT, we can expect him to be highly ranked next year.

There has been speculation ever since WrestleMania 33 when Rob Gronkowski got involved in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal helping his friend Mojo Rawley that he was destined to wrestle.

Well, it seems that it could actually happen as the retired New England Patriots player said during a press conference for Abacus Health Products:

“With wrestling, I don’t feel like I would be a full-time wrestler, but there is one thing I’m down for, and that’s to do one crazy match. Practice it for a little bit, go out there, like in a Royal Rumble, go out there, I got my friend in WWE, practice it and do a full-on WWE match. I’m not saying when. Maybe five years. I got the rest of my life to do that. I’ve always dreamed about doing that, just one time, going in there and going full out. That may be a possibility, one time, down the road.”

Back in February in an interview with SI.com’s Triple H made it clear that the WWE is an option for Rob Gronkowski.

“Gronk has mentioned WWE before, that he loves it and said had so much fun doing it. I don’t know if it’s something he’d be seriously interested in, but that’s how the conversation started with Ronda Rousey, too. Certainly, the door is open for him at WWE.”

Gronkowski is only 30 years old, so time is on his side.
