The reason for the name change is likely due to Harwood and Wheeler being sent a cease and desist letter for their proposed use of The Revolt, a name very similar to the name used by Caleb Konley and Zane Riley on the indies for the past five years. Lio Rush was part of WWE’s mass cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it seems like he has no desire to return to WWE following an interview on Ryback’s Conversations With The Big Guy podcast.
The highly talented cruiserweight took time off from WWE despite being in a good spot working as Bobby Lashley’s manager, as he reportedly had backstage heat for disrespecting veterans and publicly stating he was unhappy with his pay, saying he was struggling to cover his road expenses.
He would tell Ryback that he did get a call from Triple H, saying:
He would eventually agree to return, this time to NXT, and go onto to have a 63-day reign as Cruiserweight Champion, but it seems he was still frustrated with WWE as their latest offer was below what he expected.
Rush is no longer wrestling, but instead focusing on a music career, releasing an album titled “Ever After” earlier this month.
Following his defeat to Daniel Bryan on the May 15th episode of SmackDown, Drew Gulak departed WWE after he was unable to agree on a new contract with the company. Gulak had requested a pay increase, but WWE refused and subsequently pulled their offer.
Obviously, negotiations quickly resumed because we understand that Gulak has now re-signed with WWE, and is scheduled to appear on this week’s SmackDown.
It is unknown if he received the pay rise he requested in this new contract, but as he recently hired super-agent Barry Bloom to represent him, there is a strong possibility he did. Bloom is well known for negotiating great contracts for his clients, who include Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Bill Goldberg, and Jim Ross, to name just a few. He also famously arranged Nash and Hall to have a favored nations clause in WCW, meaning that anyone whose salary surpassed theirs resulted in their pay being automatically increased to match.
As we reported previously, Sting is no longer under contract with WWE, and that news got many wrestling fans believing that Sting could soon be appearing in AEW.
Since then, there had been no further news. But following Cody Rhodes using one of Sting’s signature moves, the Stinger Splash at AEW’s Double or Nothing during his match with Lane Archer there has been fresh speculation.
Now in an interview with SI.com, Cody has admitted there has been no contact with Sting as of yet, but we should consider him paying tribute to Sting as his way of reaching out.
I don’t know what his schedule is like or where he’s at in this world, but nothing would please me more than to stand in a ring across from Sting. There has been no contact, but that’s my way of reaching out.Cody Rhodes
AEW has always been open to working with legends with DDP, Jake Roberts, and Arn Anderson all being featured prominently, so given Cody’s comments, it certainly seems the door is open for Sting to work with the promotion if he is interested.
Shad Gaspard died a hero by having his 10-year-old son Aryeh’s saved before himself when the pair were caught in a riptide while swimming last Sunday. Since then, the wrestling world has been grieving the loss of a genuinely loved man, and on Friday, friends of the family set up a GoFundMe to cover his wife’s bills and help Aryeh’s future college fund.
The target was set at $100,000, and amazingly at the time of writing $118,000 has been raised thanks to over 800 donors. Many of the donors are well known to wrestling fans, and someone using “CTC RIP” as their display name donated $40,000. It’s been suggested that this was John Cena, as he had a short-lived faction called “Cryme Tyme Cenation” alongside Gaspard and JTG in 2008, but this is just social media speculation.
While the target has been reached, you can still donate at GoFundMe, and support Shad’s family at this terrible time.
Japanese wrestling promotion World Wonder Ring Stardom has confirmed through Twitter that Hana Kimura has passed away. It is feared the 22-year-old took her own life after posting self-mutation images on her Twitter account, and in a since-deleted tweet wrote:
She was said to be very depressed after being the victim of cyberbullying, following the airing earlier this year of an incident where she slapped another contestant on the Japanese dating/reality television show Terrace House.
Kimura grew up around the wrestling business as her mother is retired wrestler Kyoko Kimura who fought in Big Japan, Ice Ribbon, and Stardom, among other promotions. Many puroresu aficionados believed Hana Kimura would become a big star in the wrestling business over the next few years, and she made history in January by competing in a dark match at Wrestle Kingdom 14. This was notable because it was the first women’s match at the Tokyo Dome in 18 years.
Many of the biggest stars in women’s wrestling have commented on her tragic passing, including Asuka, Natalya, Tessa Blanchard, and others.
Becky Lynch announced her pregnancy on the May 11th edition of Raw, and to the shock of nobody, Jim Cornette had a questionable take on one of wrestling’s biggest stars stepping away from the spotlight to be a mother.
On his podcast Cornette would compare a top star getting pregnant to breaking their leg on purpose and even suggested Vince McMahon put a clause in women’s contracts. He would double-down by saying:
These comments caused a social media backlash, and now Becky Lynch’s fiancé Seth Rollins has responded to Cornette’s comments. Appearing as a guest on one of WWE’s official podcast’s “After The Bell” with Corey Craves that he had lost respect for Cornette.
Rollins would go on to add:
This is another relationship that Cornette has gone on to sour over the last few years, as Rollins and he had worked together in Ring of Honor, and Cornette was responsible for talking Rollins out of signing with TNA.
A body was found washed up this at 1:30 AM local time near a lifeguard tower on Venice Beach, California, and tragically it has been confirmed to be the body of 39-year-old, former WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard.
As we reported earlier in the week, Gaspard had gone missing Sunday afternoon after being caught while swimming in a riptide along with his 10-year-old son. He would direct lifeguards to save his son first, and when they came back for him, he had disappeared underwater. Despite the U.S. Coast Guard searching 70 square nautical miles over 17 hours, he could not be found.
Gaspard was known to wrestling fans as half of the tag team Cryme Tyme, along with JTG, who had two runs on the main WWE roster, initially between 2006 and 2007, and again between 2008 and 2010. Following his release he would work sporadic independent shows, choosing to focus on his acting and writing career over pro wrestling
He is survived by his wife Siliana of 11 years and his 10-year-old son.
Earlier today Shad Gaspard’s wife Siliana posted on her social media that her husband had been missing since Sunday, and shortly after, the story was picked up by TMZ with further details reported.
The former WWE Superstar was swimming the waters at Marina Del Rey Beach in Venice Beach, California with his 10-year-old son when they were caught in a riptide. Gaspard would direct lifeguards to rescue his son first but was then hit by a large wave and has not been seen since. The Los Angeles Fire Department, various lifeguards, and the US Coast Guard were searching for him, but we understand the search has now been called off.
Gaspard last wrestled for WWE in November 2010 and has since worked on the independents and focused on his acting career. Our thoughts are with his family and friends, as we hope for a miracle at this dreadful time.
It’s well-known that Jim Cornette doesn’t abide by the old adage that if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all, and he proved that on his recent podcast. Whilst reviewing last Sunday’s Money in the Bank PPV, Cornette would say that Dana Brooke’s face looked like it had caught fire, and someone put it out with an axe. Obviously bothered with this, she would call Cornette out on Twitter, saying:
As of writing, Cornette hasn’t replied to Dana Brooke, but that might be because he is currently arguing again with Joey Ryan on Twitter.
WWE has decided not to renew Drew Gulak’s contract after he requested a pay increase. They did offer to renew on the same terms, but after he tried to negotiate, WWE pulled the offer altogether, and Gulak is now no longer with the company.
Gulak had been with the company since 2016 as part of the Cruiserweight division on 205 Live. Eventually, he would make his way to SmackDown as part of the 2019 draft, where his career highlight would be working with Daniel Bryan, where the pair mutually respected each other. His final match with the company was losing to Bryan in the first round of the tournament to crown a new Intercontinental champion this past Friday.
Before working with WWE, Gulak worked for on the independent scene for CZW, Chikara, PWG, and Evolve.
“Iron” Mike Tyson has been in the news lately after announcing he looking to make a comeback to the ring, and it seems like All Elite Wrestling is looking to capitalize on the publicity by booking him to appear at their Double or Nothing PPV. The 53-year-old former world heavyweight champion will present the inaugural TNT Championship to the winner of Cody Rhodes vs. Lance Archer on the May 23rd event.
Mike Tyson is a WWE Hall Of Famer, so this news is likely to anger Vince McMahon who brought Tyson into the company in 1998 to serve as a special guest enforcer for the WrestleMania 14 main event of Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin, where Tyson famously landed Michaels with a punch after the match.
Tyson would then again return to the promotion in 2010 as a guest host of Raw, where he would also team with our very own Chris Jericho against DX. He would turn on Jericho by revealing a DX shirt and knocking out Jericho so Michaels could get the victory.
In 2012 WWE honored Tyson by having DX induct him into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012, and Tyson would also be a playable character in that year’s video game, WWE ’13.
