Following the six-man tag team main event on the Beach Break themed episode of Dynamite, New Japan star KENTA, known as Hideo Itami in NXT, debuted on the show. KENTA would enter the ring wearing a mask but quickly revealed himself and hit Moxley with a Go 2 Sleep. This attack was seemingly in retaliation for Moxley hitting KENTA, who is the #1 contender for his IWGP US Championship with a Paradigm Shift on New Japan’s US-based show NJPW Strong this past Friday.

After Dynamite went off the air, AEW shared the below video on social media of Kenny Omega approaching KENTA and saying Brother Switchblade (Jay White) never told him to expect a guest. Omega offered him the too sweet hand gesture, but KENTA told him to shut up, and he was there to beat Moxley before walking off. Despite this, Kenny Omega speaking to the camera, suggested a lights-out tag team match for next week, with him and KENTA taking on Jon Moxley and Lance Archer.

It’s been reported a match between Moxley and KENTA for the IWGP US Championship has already been taped and will air on the February 26th edition of NJPW Strong. When you consider this wouldn’t have previously been possible under the terms of Moxley’s AEW contract, and KENTA looks to be wrestling on Dynamite next week, a working relationship appears to be official. This would mean AEW is now working with New Japan, Impact, AAA, and Billy Corgan’s NWA, opening up the possibility of multiple dream matches in the future.
Bad Bunny is a Grammy award-winning Puerto Rican rapper and has been a wrestling fan since childhood. His third studio album, “El Último Tour Del Mundo,” was released last year and debuted number one on the US Billboard 200. It made history by being the first all-Spanish-language album to top the chart, and included among the 16 tracks was the song “Booker T,” which seemingly has led to his WWE involvement.
He’d perform the song while accompanied by Booker T at the Royal Rumble this past weekend and later got involved in an angle with The Miz and John Morrison on the pay-per-view. The following night he was a guest on MizTV, but Bunny revealed he was only in the segment because his friend Damian Priest, making his Raw debut, wanted to appear. This would result in a match between Priest and The Miz, which featured Bunny hitting Morrison with a microphone, and Priest pinning The Miz.
It had been speculated Bunny could be in line to appear on future shows, and it is now known that the rapper was at the WWE Performance Center yesterday. The belief is he is training in preparation for a match at WrestleMania 37. While not confirmed, the likely matchup would be him teaming with Priest vs. Miz and Morrison, as it’s doubtful WWE would have him wrestle a singles match.
WWE is well known for trying to bring pop culture to the ring at WrestleMania, with Mr. T, Snooki, Shaquille O’Neal, and Floyd Mayweather having all wrestled at The Showcase of the Immortals. It now looks certain that Bad Bunny will soon be added to that list as the company attempts to garner more mainstream media attention.
Yesterday it was reported that Lars Sullivan was no longer with WWE, having been released from his contract in January. He’d had numerous ups and downs throughout his time with the company, and the initial thought was WWE must have decided to cut bait. However, according to Fightful Select who spoke with Sullivan the decision was actually his. Apparently, the same anxiety issues that caused him to miss out on a WrestleMania match against John Cena became were causing him to struggle to eat and sleep before appearing on television. Sullivan would call himself his own worst enemy and told WWE he was done with wrestling. He credited the company for dealing with his release with compassion and honesty.
Sullivan’s only wrestling experience has been with WWE, having signed with the company in 2013 and having his first official match in 2015. Once we debuted on NXT, he received a huge push, and upon his call up to the main roster, he was scheduled to work with Cena. This didn’t occur due to him suffering an anxiety attack before his Raw debut. He returned to WWE later in the year, but a knee injury put him on the sidelines for 18 months. He’d get medically cleared to return and wrestled two matches on SmackDown but soon vanished from television. There were rumors at the time claiming it was because WWE didn’t want to push both him and Braun Strowman at the same time.
While not confirmed by WWE, PWInsider.com has reported that Lars Sullivan has been released from his contract. Apparently, it was a quiet release that occurred in January, and he has not wished the best in his future endeavors, which is what WWE usually does. No reason is known yet why he was cut, but he did carry a lot of baggage.
Before signing with the company, he had posted racist, sexist, homophobic, and other offensive messages on an online forum. Once WWE learned of this, he was fined $100,000 and had to carry out sensitivity training. It would also later come out that he had acted in gay adult movies under the name Mitch Bennett which he hadn’t declared to WWE.
Sullivan signed with WWE in 2013 after initially training with Boby Lashley and wrestled his first official match in 2015. Once he debuted on NXT, he received a significant push based on his size and intensity. He was scheduled to debut on Raw in January 2019 and was even penciled in to be John Cena Wrestlemania 35 opponent. However, he had an anxiety attack beforehand and walked out. This resulted in WWE canceling their plans for him. He did receive another chance and appeared on Raw later that year. Shortly afterward, he was drafted to SmackDown but, unfortunately for him, suffered a severe knee injury just two months into his run.
It took 18 months, but Sullivan was able to return to WWE and would beat both Jeff Hardy and Shorty G in quick matches, seemingly establishing himself as a threat to WWE’s main eventers. Then out of nowhere, he disappeared again, with rumors being WWE didn’t want to be pushing both him and Braun Strowman, who virtually had the same gimmick simultaneously.
What is next for Sullivan remains to be seen. He has never competed outside of the WWE system, so it could be a big adjustment wrestling elsewhere. Plus, given his past comments, there may not be many promotions keen to work with him.
John Cena’s last WWE match took place at WrestleMania 36, and it has been speculated he would return for this year’s event. Wrestlemania 37 will be over two nights, so WWE needs the star power which Cena brings, especially with The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar unlikely to appear. However, speaking to Sports Illustrated, Cena has revealed that he can’t compete at either night of The Showcase of the Immortals due to his filming commitments in Canada. He is currently filming Peacemaker, for HBO Max in Vancouver, until July, and if he leaves, the production would have to shut down. He’d also comment on his part-time WWE status by saying he has become what he despised.
John Cena is referring to when he famously called out The Rock for being a part-timer. The real-life situation eventually resulted in two huge WrestleMania matches between the pair. Cena has since gone back on these comments and called it the “stupidest stuff ever” and that he was looking at it through blinded eyes.
While a blow to WWE, Cena’s absence means someone who wouldn’t have featured prominently on the card will now get an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t. In the longterm, this could be beneficial for WWE in creating more stars as WWE can’t keep going back to the past forever.
Carlito returned to WWE during the Royal Rumble match on Sunday and looked to be in the best shape of his life. Lasting a respectable 8:26 minutes, the 41 looked capable of another WWE, and according to PWInsider, he is expected to be at Raw tonight and possibly given a tryout as a producer.
This is a similar situation to that of MVP, who was a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match last year, received a Raw match, and got a backstage producer role. He’d end up aligning himself onscreen with Bobby Lashley, forming the Hurt Business, and became a significant part of Raw. Six months on from that Rumble appearance aged 46, he signed a multi-year contract with WWE.
The former Intercontinental, United States, and Tag Team champion Carlito left WWE in 2010 after refusing to attend rehab after a violation of WWE’s Wellness Program. Over the years, there has been speculation of him returning, but nothing ever came of it. Instead, he worked for his father’s promotion World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico and on the independent scene. If Carlito does appear on Raw and it goes well, MVP has proven anything can happen.
The sad passing of Jon Huber united the wrestling world, which speaks volumes for the man that Huber was. AEW would dedicate an entire episode of Dynamite to his life, whilst WWE opened Raw with an in-memory of tribute graphic and shared a video package on social media. Many wrestlers also took it upon themselves to pay tribute in their own ways, such as Lance Archer dressing like Luke Harper and Drew McIntyre referenced Huber’s Twitter catchphrase saying, “It’s Monday, you know what that means,” during a Raw promo.
During last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods had a New Day reunion backstage and wore matching gear that feated Huber. Jonathan Davenport designed the tribute, and when you are looking at the designs in detail, you can identify Huber’s sons’ inclusion. You can check out the drawings below.
Following the show, Big E tweeted that the trio will be auctioning off this gear. All proceeds will be going to Foodlink based out of Rochester, New York, which was Huber’s hometown. If you’re interested in bidding, then keep an eye on Big E’s Twitter account @WWEBigE, as he’ll likely post the link there when the bidding commences.
During the men’s Royal Rumble match, former World Heavyweight Champion Christian made a surprise appearance at number 24. The match featured a special moment when he and his long-time tag team partner and childhood friend Edge embraced. The thought to be retired star lasted until the final five, being eliminated by Seth Rollins. Following the match, Christian would be interviewed backstage by the WWE Network and said that wrestling was what he was born to do. However, he was non-committal regarding any further matches saying, “All I was ever promised was one more match. That could be it.”

Christian hasn’t been able to wrestle for the past seven years due to concussion issues and couldn’t get cleared to wrestle previously despite WWE involving him in angles since. Obviously, something has changed as he wouldn’t have been able to compete had he not been medically cleared. His performance was excellent, and a tag team match with Edge would likely draw a lot of interest. Unfortunately, this year may not be possible as Edge is only contracted for two more matches in 2021.
One of the joys of watching the Royal Rumble match is the surprise entrants, and over the years, names such as Booker T, Diesel, Haku, Bubba Ray Dudley, and Jeff Jarrett have made unannounced appearances. It’s doubtful any return will ever top Edge’s last year, yet WWE will always try and surprise fans. Now, with the men’s Royal Rumble match only hours away, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has confirmed Carlito is backstage.
If Carlito does make an appearance, it will be the first time the former Intercontinental, US, and Tag Team champion has performed for WWE since 2010. Initially pushed as an up-and-coming star, he would gradually move down the card and eventually was released after refusing to attend rehab after a violation of WWE’s Wellness Program. Over the years, there has been speculation of him returning, but nothing ever came of it. Instead, he worked for his father’s promotion World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico and on the independent scene.
Meltzer also noted that Christian is backstage, who himself would make an unbelievable Rumble entrant. However, as he had to retire due to concussion issues, he is more likely there to see Edge or film content for upcoming WWE documentaries.
It’s a scary time for women in wrestling. Last year saw a man break into Sonya Deville’s Florida house and attempt to kidnap her. Then, Paige had a man turn up uninvited to her and Ronnie Radke’s Los Angeles home that had to be restrained by the Falling In Reverse frontman until police arrived. Now, Alexa Bliss has revealed that she and her fiancé Ryan Cabrera are being harassed by a man on social media, going by the name “Robert.”
Robert’s Twitter account was only opened in December, although he has had previous ones based on Bliss’s above tweet. Looking through his tweets, he has tagged Bliss and Cabrera dozens of times. In some of the tweets, he makes serious allegations against Cabrera. In others, he pretends he is in a relationship with Bliss. Hopefully, now that Bliss has drawn attention to this person, the authorities can take action, and he can get the help needed before something terrible happens.
So far, only 13 of the 30 entrants for the women’s match have been confirmed. It’s expected a number of the remaining spots will be taken up by NXT talents; however, there is plenty of room for surprises. Thanks to Natalya’s Instagram story, we now seemingly have confirmation that one of those surprises will be Trish Stratus. Natalya revealed this by sharing a photo with Stratus along with the captain, “Can’t wait for this Sunday.” You can view the hastily deleted image below, which looks to have been taken backstage.
Later, Stratus would post three photos on Twitter saying she was home in Toronto watching Star Wars movies with one of her children. However, speculation is these are old photos done to try and cover for Natalya’s mistake. If Stratus does make an appearance, it will be her first match since SummerSlam 2019, which saw her face Charlotte Flair in what was thought to be her final match.
