Earlier today, a charity wrestling event was announced that was being run through Joey Ryan’s Bar Wrestling promotion. He and multiple other well-known names were set to wrestle, and to say that there was a negative reaction would be an understatement. Tony Khan would even say in a tweet, “If Joey Ryan is there, my people won’t be there. I’ll gladly donate to the charity though.” Now though the show has been canceled, as you can see below. Ryan is currently taking legal action against multiple people who made accusations against him as part of the #SpeakingOut movement last year, as well as Impact Wrestling, who terminated his contract. Ryan did address and deny the allegations in a since-removed YouTube video, and while not having been convicted of a crime, it appears he is unwanted by fans in the wrestling business.

Charlotte Flair and Andrade went public with their relationship in 2019, and they kicked 2020 off on a high note by announcing on their social media accounts that they were engaged. At that time, both of their careers were on a high, with Andrade having just defeated Rey Mysterio for the United States Championship and Charlotte being less than a month away from winning the women’s Royal Rumble match. Since then, their careers have gone in opposite directions, and many fans have suggested that WWE put the duo together on television to elevate Andrade. Now in an interview with TV Insider, the 12 time Women’s champion has revealed she actually proposed doing just that.

I’ve actually pitched that. I would be very much open to that. I’ve done a lot in my career, but nobody has seen me in an on-cam relationship, or in that light. I can come across cold on TV.Charlotte Flair

Seminary WWE rejected this idea, and Andrade hasn’t been on WWE television since October 2020. The third-generation luchador was a Paul Heyman project, and when the former ECE boss lost his creative powers, Andrade’s stock began to fall due to Vince McMahon not being a fan. There has been talk of him returning to NXT, where he wrestled between 2016 and 2018 and is a former championship, but right now, his career remains in limbo.

Joey Ryan’s wrestling career appeared to be over following multiple allegations made against him as part of the #SpeakingOut movement last year. Significantly Impact Wrestling released him from his contract, and the venue for his Bar Wrestling promotion ended their relationship. Ryan would address and deny the allegations in a since-removed YouTube video and is currently engaged in legal action against some of his accusers and Impact Wrestling.

Ryan, though, is now set to return to the world of professional wrestling as he is putting on a charity wrestling show. Titled Wrestling For Women’s Charity, it will be taking place in Knoxville, TN, on March 20th and is also going to stream on FITE.tv. Ryan is advertised for the show, including 2 Cold Scorpio, Carlito, Chris Masters, Gangrel, Erick Rowan, Molly Holly, and Rhyno, with the proceeds going to Project GRL.

The original tweet advertising the show has since been deleted, which is likely due to either the negative backlash it received or due to Brian Cage and Sonny Kiss being featured on the poster. The AEW contracted wrestlers were pulled rapidly once Tony Khan saw the tweet, and he replied saying, “If Joey Ryan is there, my people won’t be there. I’ll gladly donate to the charity though.

Ryan isn’t the only person canceled by the #SpeakingOut movement trying to make a return to wrestling. News recently broke that Marty Scurll appeared at a NJPW Strong taping in Los Angeles by getting involved in a post-match angle with Rocky Romero. It isn’t known if Scurll has signed a deal with the Japanese promotion at this time but based on his reported involvement at the taping, it appears he is set to appear again.

On last night’s Raw, Bobby Lashley won the WWE Championship from The Miz in a Lumberjack match via submission. It was the pair’s second meeting of the night, as Lashley had defeated Miz via count out earlier in the evening after he ran out, thus the need for the Lumberjack stipulation. While not officially announced, it now looks set for one of the WrestleMania 37 main events to be Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre. Seemingly though, some fans would rather see Lashley defend his newly won championship against Brock Lesnar as “Brock” would trend on Twitter shortly after the title switch.

The whole purpose of Lashley winning the title is that WWE wants to give McIntyre a strong WrestleMania opponent. So it appears that barring injury, McIntyre will win his third WWE Championship in front of fans for the first time in April. That said, with WWE knowing fans want to see Lashley vs. Lesnar, perhaps they’ll book a match between the two MMA fighters when Lesnar inevitably returns.

At present, Lesnar is a free agent, and his last appearance for WWE was at WrestleMania 36, where he firmly put over McIntyre. The belief is WWE didn’t want to pay the huge money to keep him on their roster when ticket sales couldn’t offset his salary. However, as WWE has recently signed an enormous money deal to stream on Peacock, and fans are returning at WrestleMania, it’s likely the only matter of time until The Beast Incarnate is back on WWE television.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Jerry “The King” Lawler feuded in 1996 after Lawler repeatedly mocked Roberts’ issues with alcoholism. He’d suggest that Roberts’ tag partner was Jim Beam and referred to Aldo Montoya as Roberts’ designated driver. The pair met at SummerSlam, and Lawler won after hitting Roberts with a bottle of whiskey. With the heel having gone over, the angle had to continue, and Lawler would continue to make tasteless remarks.

Roberts would go on to get his win and beat Lawler in a ten-second match on Raw after pretending to be drunk during his entrance. Apart from being on opposing teams at the Survivor Series, the feud was thankfully over. Now speaking to ITRwrestling.com, Roberts has shared his opinion on the angle and blamed both Vince McMahon and Lawler.

Well, I thought it was a horrible thing for McMahon to ask me to do. It was cheap, it was disrespectful, it didn’t prove a damn thing other than the fact that Vince McMahon’s an asshole, so there you go. Lawler, he’s in the same boat. Both assholes. Jake Roberts

Following a real-life relapse with drugs and alcohol, Roberts would depart WWE in February 1997. As seen in the documentary Beyond The Mat, his addictions would worsen, and his career went further off the rails. He finally managed to rid himself of his additions after moving in with Diamond Dallas Page in 2012, who helped him turn his life around. This led to a WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2014, and now Roberts is signed with AEW, where he is the mouthpiece for Lance Archer.

Big Cass was set for a big push in WWE, but due to behavioral issues and not following the script during an angle on SmackDown, he was released on June 19, 2018. He would go on to wrestle on the independent circuit using the name Caz XL, but due to alcohol and mental health issues, this didn’t go well. The lowlight came at WrestlePro show, where he tried to fight Joey Janela backstage, got punched by Pat Buck, and the police had to be called when he refused to leave the building.

Now, after almost 18 months out of the spotlight, Cass has returned to wrestling on Saturday night for a Lariato Pro Wrestling show held at Toombs County Middle School in Lyons, Georgia. He’d be the surprise tag partner for Hernandez facing Luke and Perry Hawx, but beforehand he’d make the save for his former WWE tag partner Enzo Amore. You can watch his entrance and hear the fans’ reaction in the video below.

[adthrive-in-post-video-player video-id=”C5NT8tuH” upload-date=”2021-02-28T16:54:22.000Z” name=”Big Cass Entrance” description=”” player-type=”default” override-embed=”default”]

Based on the video and photos, Big Cass appeared to be in great shape, and hopefully, his return means he is in a good place and ready to resume his wrestling career. With Lariato Pro Wrestling having connections to Impact Wrestling and this show scheduled to air on their Impact Plus streaming service, it could potentially open the door for Cass to make appearances for Impact in the future.

Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman Billy Corgan originally wanted NWA Powerrr to air on the WWE Network, but a deal couldn’t be agreed. Instead, the show debuted on YouTube, and so far, 21 episodes have been broadcast. Due to worldwide events, there have been no tapings since January 2020, and former NWA Champion Raven, who has known Corgan for a long time, stated he believed the promotion was closing. Corgan, though, would issue a statement denying this.

More questions have now been raised, as all previous episodes have been removed from the NWA’s official YouTube channel with no details about why being provided. David Marquez, who has had a long association with the NWA and worked as both an interviewer and ring announcer on NWA Powerrr, has stated on Twitter he doesn’t know why. It should be noted the first 20 episodes are still available as of writing to watch on Fite.tv.

Some have suggested the promotion could really be folding this time. If that were to be happening, it wouldn’t come as a massive surprise as a significant part of their roster, including names like Ricky Starks, Eli Drake, Stu Bennett, James Storm, Eddie Kingston, and Allysin Kay have departed. At present, the NWA only seems to exist in other promotions, with their current Women’s Champion Serena Deeb actually being a contracted AEW talent.

That said, Carlito recently revealed that the NWA reached out to him over the last month, which would appear the promotion intends to run again. Possibly Corgan has simply had the episodes removed from YouTube as he has licensed the content elsewhere. Nonetheless, until some comment is made, fans will continue to speculate.

Nowadays, Ron Simmons is as famous to modern wrestling fans for his “Damn” catchphrase as anything he did in the ring. Now the former WCW and WWE star has discussed the origins of the catchphrase, which he began using while part of the APA with Bradshaw as the APA on a recent episode of WWE’s The Bump.

People always tease me about it, but they never ask me the origins of it. That started when Bradshaw and I were tagging together. When something would go wrong, the people in the first six or seven rows could hear me say, “Damn.2 Each time we would go back to those towns, the more I said it, the more people started chanting it. I’d ask Bradshaw, “What are they saying?” He’d say, “I think they’re saying Damn because you say that every time something doesn’t go the way you want it to go.” So, the writers got wind of this, and they said let’s try this.

So, Booker T and John Cena are having an exchange in Chicago, and they wanted to try this. At the end of the exchange, they wanted me to simply walk out and say, “Damn,” I did, and that was how that was born.Ron Simmons

Simmons still makes brief cameo appearances on WWE television, and if he didn’t say his famous catchphrase, fans would be disappointed. He is, though, much more than just a catchphrase, and during his prime years, was a good worker. His career highlight came at a 1992 WCW house show in Baltimore, Maryland, where he defeated Vader to become WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Four years later, he joined WWE, where he was the Nation of Domination’s leader, held the WWE Tag Team Championship three times, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2012.

Carlito’s status has been a hot topic since he made his WWE return during the Royal Rumble match last month and looked to be in perhaps the best shape of his life. He’d also wrestle on the following night’s Raw, teaming with Jeff Hardy defeating Elias and Jaxson Ryker. This made it look like a full-time return was likely. However, since then, the hs made no further appearances and is not believed to be in WWE’s future plans.

The former Intercontinental, United States, and Tag Team Champion has now confirmed when speaking to Wrestling Inc that he hasn’t talked to AEW, but both Impact Wrestling and Billy Corgan’s NWA have talked to him about possibly coming in.

While nobody from AEW has reached out, people from Impact Wrestling and NWA have reached out, there is a lot of interesting places to go right now. So, we’ll see what the future holds.Carlito

Carlito hasn’t worked for a major promotion since departing WWE back in 2010. Instead, he worked for his father’s promotion in Puerto Rico and wrestling on independent shows. His return received a lot of buzz online, and fans were happy t see him, so if a promotion can come to an agreement with him, they’ll likely see an initial spike in attention.

Thea Trinidad, who wrestled for WWE as Zelina Vega, was released by the company last year for breach of contract, with the decision coming straight from Vince McMahon. It stemmed from her opening a third-party account after WWE had imposed their ban. Now speaking to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW’s Tony Khan has revealed he has been keeping tabs on her 90-day non-compete clause and is interested in potentially working with her.

Isn’t she in a 90-day non-compete? She was in a non-compete last time I checked. I’ve been waiting for that. I don’t talk to people when they have the non-compete. If hers expired, it must have just expired. I’ve been waiting on her non-compete to expire. I’d have to check the math to see if she expired. When we get through this tournament and through this pay-per-view, I’d be interested to see where she’s at. Tony Khan

Trinidad’s non-compete actually ended over two weeks ago, so legally, both her and Khan are free to talk. The former WWE star began wrestling in 2010, and thanks to a recommendation from Tommy Dreamer, she got a shot in TNA in 2011. During her TNA run, she competed as Rosita and won the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship with her kayfabe cousin Sarita but would return to the independents a few years later. During her time back on the indie scene, she would try out for WWE every year until finally getting signed in 2017.

Paul Heyman is a very controversial figure in pro wrestling. While respected by most for his creativity, some of the stories about his lies and deceit are legendary and ensured he isn’t trusted by many. Now though, in an interview with Job’d Out Wrestling, Justin Credible has shared a positive story about the former Extreme Championship Wrestling head-honcho.

Let me tell you about Paul Heyman real quick… Paul Heyman paid for my son’s birth and my wife’s pregnancy – out of pocket cash – he paid $75,000+, which a lot of people don’t know, because he committed to this via contract, he never got health insurance proper. So, when my child was born, I gave him every single receipt and every single bill that got paid. He tried his best to keep his word, he really did, and if you were important to him, he was going to try to go to bat for you. Justin Credible

ECW often lived hand to mouth, and bounced checks became a regular occurrence due to competing with WWE and WCW. This eventually caught up with Heyman, and he voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 protection under the U.S. bankruptcy laws on April 4, 2001, through HHG Corporation, the parent company of ECW. Documents show the company had almost $9 million in unpaid bills, and dozens of talents were owed money, with some being five and six figures.

Kelly Klein and Joey Mercury embarrassed Ring of Honor in 2019 when they publicly spoke about their lack of proper concussion protocol and not allowing her time off to recover. Mercury had already left the promotion, but Klein was the current Women of Honor Champion and subsequently departed the company. It was claimed she’d been released, but ROH technically just allowed her contract to expire despite having made her a previous offer to stay.

The former three times WOH Champion has now filed a lawsuit against Sinclair Broadcasting, naming ROH, their COO Joe Koff, General Manager Greg Gilliland, Booker Hunter Johnston, and Jay Lethal as defendants. She is seeking $75,000, and her complaints include breach of an implied contract, violation of state and federal equal pay acts, abusive discharge, unpaid royalties, discrimination and harassment, and an unsafe working environment.

Documentation reveals she has claimed that she was denied a $4,000 pay rise despite being paid just $20,000 a year when a male ROH wrestler was paid $184,000 a year. She also states she suffered injuries in multiple matches but was not checked upon by anyone in the company, nor were medical staff available to evaluate her. Additionally, she also says she complained about Jay Lethal harassing her, but ROH didn’t investigate.

Klein has not wrestled since leaving ROH, with her last match taking place during the companies 2019 tour of the UK. Since she departed the company while still champion, ROH therefore retired and replaced the title with the ROH Women’s World Championship. A tournament to crown the inaugural champion will begin on Friday, April 24, at Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena.
