John Morrison was let go by WWE on November 18th last year, just days after putting Veer Mahaan over on Main Event. Now, with his non-compete having expired, he has returned to the ring for the first time since then at AAA’s Rey de Reyes event, under the name Johnny Superstar. Unfortunately for his fans, he would be unsuccessful against AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo, although he didn’t show any ring rust in his 13-minute match.
The new name is just the latest in a long list of changes to her surname, which has become part of his gimmick over the years. Currently, in addition to Morrison and Superstar, he has competed as Johnny Blackcraft, Johnny Blaze, Johnny Impact, Johnny Mundo, Johnny Nitro, Johnny Onyx, Johnny Spade, and Johnny Ultra. When Morrison wrestled for AAA between 2015 and 2018, he used the surname Mundo, so it is a little surprising he changed it, and it will be interesting to see if he goes by Superstar from now on the independents.
Morrison wasn’t the only former WWE performer to return to AAA at the show, as his wife Taya Valkyrie would also wrestle on the show. However, unlike her husband, she would be victorious in her match and is now the #1 contender for the Reina de Reinas Championship. She previously vacated this same title after 594 days following her WWE signing and will likely face current champion Deonna Purrazzo shortly.
Bad Bunny has brought WWE a lot of mainstream publicity, even appearing with the 24/7 Championship during multiple public appearances. Now WWE has returned the favor by sending The Undertaker to appear at one of his concerts. The timing and location made perfect sense as Bunny was performing at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, which is the exact location where The Undertaker will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
You can watch the soon-to-be Hall of Famer’s motorcycle entrance with Kid Rock blasting in the below clip.
Bunny and The Undertaker were photographed together backstage at the Royal Rumble last month, and it’s possible that was then the wheels were set in motion for this. The Undertaker has actually discussed Bad Bunny’s involvement with WWE previously and called his WWE in-ring performances “utterly amazing” in an interview. He would also say the rapper has set the bar “super-high” for future celebrities getting involved in wrestling. Obviously, with Bunny being a lifelong WWE fan, this will have delighted him, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Bad Bunny and WWE work together for years to come.
Bobby Lashley went into Elimination Chamber as WWE Champion but would end up losing the title without participating in the match. While he would enter his chamber pod, he would end up suffering a storyline concussion when Austin Theory was put through his pod, and Lashley apparently bumped his head. Initially, it was believed it was done to protect Lashley, who is one of the few wrestlers booked strongly by the company.
However, it has now been revealed by The Ringer Wrestling Show the angle was done to explain why Lashley will be out of action for potentially four months as he legitimately requires shoulder surgery.
I have under good authority that Lashley is shoot hurt and has been hurt since the Rumble match. If you’ve noticed, he hasn’t worked any Raw’s. He hasn’t really defended his title. He was shoot hurt at the Lesnar match at the Rumble.
Kazeem FamuyideFrom what I’m told, it’s for at least four months—shoulder surgery. I’m hearing that he might not even make it to Wrestlemania. He’s a freak athlete, so there’s a possibility.
Kazeem FamuyideIt was a terrible way for Lashley’s second WWE Championship run to conclude, but it makes sense given the circumstances. Hopefully, Lashley can make a full recovery, not only for himself but for WWE as a whole, as he is one of their biggest stars and, along with MVP, is regularly one of the highlights of Raw.
This past week, the most significant news in pro wrestling has been the departure of Cody and Brandi Rhodes from AEW. Few thought it would happen so soon as they were EVP, and the company is still growing. Nevertheless, it would come out that Cody was unhappy over the loss of his booking power, as over time, Tony Khan had taken over sole the responsibility of writing shows.
It was considered a foregone conclusion that Cody was set to return to WWE, with some reports saying he could be filming content at the Performace Center as soon as this weekend. However, Rhodes has now shared the below Instagram Story showing his daughter Liberty and one of his dogs, captioned “This is what retirement looks like,” implying he is stepping away from the ring.

It seems extremely unlikely that Cody has genuinely retired, considering reports of how much money is on the table from WWE due to him being potentially the first big-name wrestler to go from AEW to WWE. Therefore, Cody is likely simply trolling fans or hoping it will help make his WWE debut a surprise. Although, if he is legitimately stepping away from wrestling, it was perhaps the most modest retirement announcement ever.
Drew McIntyre defeated Madcap Moss at Elimination Chamber in a match, which was seemingly done to build a match between the former WWE Champion and Happy Corbin. However, during the match, there was an incredibly scary where Moss landed in the top of his head, apparently having tucked his chin when not necessary, taking an Alabama Slam. With Corbin on the outside realizing the potential severity, he pulled Moss out of the ring to buy him some additional time to get his composure.
While the match would finish assumably as planned, the only thing anyone talked about afterward on social media was the scary bump. And now PWInsider’s Mike Johnson has posted an update confirming that Moss was examined backstage, and it is believed to be okay.
Moss is a former college football player who has been with WWE since 2014. Unfortunately, his career was previously hindered twice due to injury, with him suffering a torn Achilles tendon when in NXT and then a torn ACL when part of the Raw roster. With him currently receiving a big push alongside Corbin on SmackDown, another injury would have been terrible for his career. Thankfully, though, that doesn’t appear to be an issue.
Two years ago, Necro Butcher would take to Facebook and share the sad news he had cancer, specifically stage 3 Hodgkins lymphoma. It had been suspected for some time he was unwell based on his physical appearance, and it was assumed his career was over. Since then, though, he has been working hard on both his health and fitness and, after being a wheelchair user at one point, was planning a return to the ring.
Now, in news that seemed impossible this time last year, XPW has announced Butcher for their upcoming King Of The Deathmatch tournament on April 9th. While never wrestling for the original XPW, he did appear at a reunion show in 2008 called Cold Day In Hell and competed in a No Ropes Barbed Wire Thumbtacks Bed Of Light Tubes Deathmatch. Who he will be wrestling this time hasn’t been confirmed. However, Shlak, G-Raver, Masada, and Matt Tremont, are among the names also advertised.
For those not familiar with Butcher’s career, he began wresting in 1998 on the Texas independent scene and quickly built a name for himself. Over time he would become known as an ultra-violent wrestling pioneer, and his match against Samoa Joe in IWA Mid-South is one of the most highly regarded indie matches of all time. After playing himself in Darren Aronofsky’s 2008 film The Wrestler, he also achieved mainstream recognition but never turned that into either a WWE or TNA run.
Lacey Evans was previously involved in an angle where she was in a relationship with Ric Flair and feuding with his daughter Charlotte. However, after she became pregnant, WWE would scrap the angle, despite at one stage attempting to portray Ric as the father. Now, seemingly out of nowhere, Evans would take to Twitter to reflect on this period and revealed Ric remarked about wanting some Hooters when working together.

Presumably, this was due to her cleavage on display in the photo she shared. However, she has subsequently deleted the tweet not long after posting it, as fans pointed out, this could be considered sexual harassment. Seemingly though, she wasn’t upset herself by the comment due to the crying laughing emoji she used.
Over the years, there have been multiple stories about Ric Flair and his behavior towards women. Yet, they were usually disregarded or just considered part of his gimmick. Nevertheless, since the episode of Dark Side of the Ring aired, which featured him allegedly being inappropriate toward a flight attendant in 2002, his reputation has taken a significant hit. Whether he’ll ever recover from this and return to mainstream wrestling remains to be seen. Still, comments like this from Evans certainly won’t benefit him.
The wrestling world was stunned when last week it was announced that Cody and Brandi Rhodes had left AEW. Since then, their departure has been the hottest topic of conversation within wrestling, with many speculating as to why they’d leave a company they helped establish. Eventually, it would come out that it was mainly due to Tony Khan taking sole responsibility for booking and Cody being unhappy with the loss of his creative input.
Now, during an interview with Busted Open, Khan has commented on their AEW exit, saying it wasn’t something that anyone wanted to happen. He would also add that he believes Cody has something else lined up but also seemingly left the door open for a potential return one day, saying you never know what will happen in the future.
I wish them both really well, and I appreciate everything they did here in their different roles in the company, and it’s very sad and not something any of us wanted to happen, I think. But I believe that Cody’s got something else in the works. I’m not sure about that. But we’ll see. I’m sure they’re gonna have great opportunities in wrestling and in life, and you never know what’s gonna happen in the future.
Tony KhanThe whole situation with Cody’s departure is quite strange, as Khan had the option to simply extend Cody’s deal as he did with Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks. However, a disgruntled Cody wouldn’t have likely been worthwhile to AEW in the long term. Whether he does sign with WWE remains to be seen. Nevertheless, rumors have circulated that he could debut as soon as Elimination Chamber. Although, reputable sources have confirmed nothing as of yet.
In August 2020, WWE filed a trademark extension on the name “Saturday Night’s Main Event,” which was believed just to be to keep it from others’ hands. However, now it has been revealed that the company is bringing the name back for a series of what appear to be house shows. So far, their April 23rd event in Montgomery, Alabama, and April 30th show in Lakeland, Florida, are the only ones announced, with Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins being used on separate promotional graphics.
For those unaware, Saturday Night’s Main Event was a big WWE show which initially ran from 1985 to 1992 and returned for five shows between 2006 and 2008. Its introduction was due to high ratings that two WWF specials drew on MTV in 1984–85, which caught NBC’s attention. Highlights of past broadcasts include a rematch from WrestleMania III of Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant, resulting in the WWF title being vacated. Plus, a massive Hogan and Randy Savage vs. The Big Boss Man and Akeem tag match, which led to the Mega Powers breaking up.
Candice LeRae has been off WWE television due to her pregnancy which she announced on August 12th. Now, her husband and fellow wrestler Johnny Gargano has shared the joyful news that she gave birth on Thursday. According to Gargano’s tweet, the proud parents have named their son Quill seemingly after the Marvel character Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Following the birth of the couple’s son, speculation will now recommence regarding the future of Gargano, who departed WWE when his contract expired on December 10, 2021. It was heavily rumored he would debut for AEW when the company was in Cleveland, but that seemed unlikely as he was purportedly adamant about staying home with LeRae until the birth. With that now having occurred, it’s likely his next wrestling destination will soon be revealed.
With the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony fast approaching, fans have been speculating who would receive the honor this year, and with WrestleMania events taking place in Dallas, The Undertaker has been regularly mentioned. Now that has been made official as WWE would issue a press release on Friday morning confirming his inclusion. They additionally confirmed that his induction would occur at the American Airlines Center following SmackDown on April 1.
The Undertaker seemingly retired at the end of WrestleMania 33 in 2017 after putting over Roman Reigns in the main event. Still, as shown in the WWE Network Series “Undertaker: The Last Ride,” he was dissatisfied with the match. He’d therefore return at the following years’ WrestleMania, defeating John Cena in a squash, and go on to have four more matches in 2018. After that, he’d twice wrestle in 2019 and then twice more in 2020, once winning the Tuwaiq Trophy Gauntlet and then defeating AJ Styles in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 36 in a Boneyard match. Ultimately this would be his last hurrah.
Initially, it was assumed he would be the headline act for the following year’s Class of 2021 Hall of Fame. However, with the event taking place without fans in attendance, it didn’t seem suitable, and with this year taking place in his home state, it makes perfect sense for him to receive a proper sendoff here. And for those in the area or planning on being in Dallas for WrestleMania 38 and wanting to be part of a historical night, two for one tickets for both SmackDown and HOF ceremony go on sale on February 22 via Ticketmaster.
As the releases of Mike Chioda and Tony Chimel have proven, longevity working with WWE doesn’t ensure any type of job security. And now it has been reported by Lucha Libre Online that after 29 years working for the company, Spanish language play-by-play announcer Carlos Cabrera has been let go by the company. No specific reason was given, but with the WWE constantly looking to cut costs despite making record profits, it was likely due to budgetary reasons.
Cabrera began working for the company in 1993 and since then has been recording live Spanish commentary for all WWE’s live weekly shows from the company’s television studio in Stamford, Connecticut. Additionally, he would appear ringside for PPV events, with wrestlers so frequently being put through his announce desk that it became a wrestling trope. What the future now holds for the Colombian remains to be seen. Still, given his experience and reputation, it would be surprising if he doesn’t find himself employed elsewhere shortly.
