Former WWE performer Kevin Fertig, better known as Mordecai and later as Kevin Thorn, has opened up about his path to recovery in a conversation with So Cal Val. After nearly 15 years of resentment and bitterness toward the company, he made a phone call last May seeking assistance, and WWE promptly enrolled him in its rehab program. 49-year-old Fertig now praises the organization for providing the tools and support that helped him achieve sobriety and save his life.
“I spent, probably, I don’t know, 15 years, pissed off, hated WWE, depressed, and all this stuff. Kind of the biggest reason I don’t have any resentment anymore is in May, I made a phone call to them, and I went in the rehab program, and they saved my life. Everything with that is, as much as I hate them, as much resentment as I had for them, they saved my life, and I wouldn’t be here today …They gave me the tools graciously, because I didn’t deserve them. As big a dick as I was for the last 15 years of resenting them, I didn’t deserve it. And they sent me, got me cleaned up, and got me back better than I ever have been.” – Kevin Fertig
WWE’s Talent Wellness Program has quietly powered multiple redemption arcs for stars facing substance abuse. Dustin Rhodes has described how the initiative arranged his rehab within days, delivering an eight-day detox that brought clarity after years of heavy addiction. William Regal credits the program with rescuing both his life and career, paving the way for his successful transition into coaching. Additionally, former referee Drake Wuertz publicly thanked WWE for funding his treatment and ongoing outpatient care, while alumni like Maven Huffman also received vital support. These stories highlight the program’s role in offering second chances to talents who, in the past, would likely have had to struggle alone.
