Two weeks ago, it was reported that Miro had requested his release from AEW. However, despite earning seven figures a year and having not been used since World End last December, it appears Tony Khan is in no rush to grant him his employment freedom, as Fightful Select has reported they haven’t heard any more since the initial report. Additionally, it’s stated that AEW could add on significant injury time if they wanted, which is what they have apparently done regarding Rey Fénix.
“I’ve not heard anything about it being granted so far. The two sides are rarely on the same side creatively. His deal runs until the spring of 2026, and if there is an injury time clause in it, they can extend it way past that.”
Sean Ross Sapp via Fightful Select38-year-old Miro made his name in WWE as Rusev, but after being released from the company in April 2020, he debuted for Tony Khan’s promotion the following September. Yet, while his gimmick of a gamer was based on his real-life passion, it didn’t get over with fans, so he was repackaged as “God’s Favorite Champion” and pushed as a dominant force in the company. Still, his AEW career has since been derailed due to injury and, possibly more significantly, his reluctance to go along with the creative written for him, resulting in some fans believing AEW should cut their losses.
