Kurt Angle’s life has been filled with glorious highs and unthinkable lows. And now, during a recent interview with Danielle McCartan, the Olympic gold medalist has discussed one of those lows, which was his sister Le’Anne succumbing to a drug overdose in 2003. However, making this even worse, Angle has disclosed that he cut her out of his life due to not wanting her to know he had his drug problem and, therefore, didn’t get to speak to her before she passed away.
“I was at a house show, a non-televised show, the night before. I just got done wrestling, my brother, Eric called me. He said, ‘Listen, your sister Le’Anne just died of a heroin overdose.’ Man, that devastated me … I didn’t have a chance to talk to my sister before she passed away because I had too much pride. I didn’t want her to know I had a drug problem. But I was criticizing her for hers. I said, ‘Listen, I’m not going to talk to you until you get clean.’ Unfortunately, she never got clean, and she passed away. So, I regret that decision.”
Kurt AngleDuring the height of his own addiction, Angle had 12 different doctors who were giving him 12 different painkiller prescriptions, although at times, this wasn’t enough, and he would purchase additional pills illegally from Mexico. Still, since 2013, Angle has been clean and sober after completing rehab following a DUI arrest, and therefore, thankfully, he is still here for his family and fans.
