Jake Roberts Reveals Whether He Is Disappointed To Have Never Been WWE Champion

Jake Roberts was a huge part of WWE’s product in the ’80s and early ’90s, resulting in many fans listing him alongside names like Scott Hall and Roddy Piper as the best wrestlers never to be the company’s champion. However, it appears that Roberts doesn’t feel like he missed out, as in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, he said the only thing he wishes he’d had was the money that came with the belt.

“No, not at all. My God, I’m grateful I didn’t. I had to carry that too, you know, carried a 50, 60, or 75-pound snake around. And we’d be on the road for two or three weeks at a time. All your clothing, everything, you’ve got to carry it. Man, the last thing I’d want is a 10-pound belt to carry around, too … I would have liked to have had the money that is associated with that belt, but how can I complain about the career that I had?

Roberts would have likely made a great WWE Champion, although he never got an opportunity because his peak was during the time of Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior. And while WWE was forced to change direction and put Bret Hart and later Shawn Michaels on top, Roberts’ career was in decline at this time due to his personal demons. Still, despite this, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014, giving his career the recognition it deserved.
