Jake Hager, who found fame in WWE as Jack Swagger, has been with AEW since the inaugural episode of Dynamite. And while always presented as a star, he hasn’t competed in an AEW ring as often as many expected. However, there has been a good reason for this, with the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion simultaneously pursuing a career in MMA since signing with Bellator in 2017. Now, though, it appears his dual career is over, as he revealed during a virtual signing that he has retired from MMA and will concentrate on pro wrestling.
“Officially, I’m retired from MMA. I trained hard last year, but Bellator was jerking me off, and I retired, and I am now just focusing on wrestling now.”
Jake Hager41-year-old Hager was highly regarded in the world of MMA and holds a 3-0-1 record, with his name coming up when opponents for Ryan Bader and Fedor Emelianeko were being suggested. Still, he hasn’t fought since a split decision victory in 2020 over Brandon Calton, and seemingly, based on these comments, his absence from competing has been down to Bellator rather than himself.
