Goldberg was one of the biggest names in pro wrestling during the late 1990s, and a massive part of this was his WCW winning streak, promoted as 173-0. However, almost twenty years later, Asuka would surpass this number, remaining undefeated for a staggering 914 days.
And now, after previously calling Asuka “some Japanese girl,” he has again caused controversy online after referring to her during a new interview as “Some girl at WWE,” seemingly unaware of her name.
Many actually dispute Goldberg’s streak, claiming WCW inflated the number, and in fact, the recently retired WWE Hall of Famer wasn’t even undefeated during the run as he lost a dark match to Chad Fortune a few weeks after debuting. Similarly, Asuka’s streak isn’t totally legitimate, as Eva Marie eliminated her from a battle royal three months into her NXT run. Additionally, she failed to win a fatal four-way match also involving Bayley, Alexa Bliss, and Emma, although, as she didn’t get pinned or made to submit, WWE ignored this.
