While he lost the AEW World Championship at All In, Swerve Strickland remains one of the promotion’s top stars, which, given the fact WWE released him in 2021, is truly remarkable. And now, during an interview with Bryan Danielson, the man who defeated him for the belt, has commented on WWE not seeing value in Strickland, asking, “Who would ever let go of this guy?“
“Swerve was perfect at All In. I mean, he’s incredible. He just signed a new contract with AEW, and that is one of the benefits of having two mainstream wrestling companies in the United States. WWE didn’t see value in him, and they let him go. You watch him and ask, ‘Who would ever let go of this guy?’
He just wasn’t given the opportunity to be his best self. And that goes both ways, I don’t want it to sound like, ‘Oh, evil WWE, they don’t let their talent be their best selves.’ Some people will thrive there. Some people will thrive here.”
Bryan Danielson33-year-old Strickland broke into the business in 2008 and worked for multiple promotions before signing a developmental contract with WWE in 2019. However, after being released after just two years, many thought he was set for a life as a journeyman wrestler. Still, thanks to Tony Khan identifying his potential, he was signed by AEW and proved any doubters he had wrong by becoming a prominent part of their roster, and recently signed a new long-term contract to ensure he doesn’t return to WWE.
